Broken Pipe: Pavel Hap

On Saturday, March 5 Czech pipe maker, Pavel Háp died of an apparent heart attack while working on pipes in his shop. He was only 56 years old and had been making pipes for 32 years. He planned to participate for the first time in May of this year at the Chicago Pipe Show.

  • Sorry to hear that in a very short span of time another member of the brotherhood died at such a relatively young age. From what I can gather by visiting his website, he apparently had a secret method of rustication, which he took to the grave. Of course, I think we all would rather not mourn his death so much as celebrate his life. And it is in that spirit that I would have entitled his obit piece “Pavel Czech’s Out”.

  • Bad news for each pipesmoker here in Czech. His pipes were well known among Czech-pipesmokers, of distinctive design and first-class processed. Big loss for us….
