The Pipes Magazine Radio Show – Episode 189

Kevin Godbee
Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our Featured Interview tonight is with Pete Siegel. Pete has been involved in every aspect of the pipe business for several decades. He has been an importer, manufacturer, and retailer of pipes and tobaccos. Here is a fascinating forum thread that Pete contributed a lot of knowledge and history too. (He is "Neverbend" in the thread.) In the "Pipe Parts" segment, Brian will get a little personal and tell you about his 101-year old grandmother that he was taking care of for the last four years. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Tonight’s show is sponsored by Sutliff-Tobacco.com, SmokingPipes.com, Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, Cornell & Diehl, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • Finally! I’ve been lobbying for this interview and it did not disappoint. Pete’s wealth of knowledge abut the British and Italian makers is perhaps unparalleled. He also appears to be a fine person and I hope to meet and share a smoke with him some day. An Elephant & Castle blend of course – The Stout!

  • I totally agree with ssjones. I am so pleased that Pete was able to share his experiences with like-minded people. I certainly recalled stuff that was stored in the deepest recesses of my mind. I then recall driving up Park Lane and when we got to ‘Speakers Corner’ I said that this was Marble Arch. Pete liked the Marble Arch itself and also the name. I think this is what happened – if not, it may have been another one of my dreams. Pete has a vast knowledge about tobacco, blending and so forth. A real pleasure to hear his voice again.

  • This was just a great interview. Good job, Brian. His knowledge of the industry seemed to have no end. His enthusiasm for telling his story was wonderful. Didn’t know he was involved in the Elephant & Castle blends. Even the horse breeding stuff was very interesting.
    Music – yucch.

  • Brian, I really enjoyed your conversation with Pete. These are your best episodes simply due to the history in the business. Pete didn’t disappoint, so thank you!
Also, I finally caught up with all your back episodes. For the last 4-months I listened Monday through Friday (while at work) for roughly 6 hours per night. Now I’m not really sure what will entertain me during the early morning hours.
    Thanks
    Mike
