The Pipes Magazine Radio Show – Episode 146

Kevin Godbee
Thank you for joining us for The Pipes Magazine Radio Show—the only radio talk show for pipe smokers and collectors. We broadcast weekly, every Tuesday at 8 pm eastern USA time and are available on nearly all podcast sites and apps. Listen on your computer, tablet, phone and even in the car! Our Featured Interview tonight is with Jon David Cole from The Country Squire in Jackson, MS. The Country Squire is a 45-year old tobacconist focused on pipes and their own exclusive pipe tobacco blends. They are still making many of the same tobaccos from when they started. This will be the kickoff of our summer series focused on tobacconists and we will tie-in the “Pipe Parts” segment to the summer series with the history of tobacco. Sit back, relax with your pipe, and enjoy The Pipes Magazine Radio Show!

Tonight’s show is sponsored by Sutliff-Tobacco.com, CupOJoes.com, SmokingPipes.com, Missouri Meerschaum, 4noggins.com, Cornell & Diehl, and Savinelli Pipes and Tobaccos, and MarketingPipes.com. Please give them some consideration when making your next pipe or tobacco purchase.

We hope you enjoy our 1-hour show produced just for you—the pipe smoker and collector. The following link will launch a pop-up player. Alternatively, you can download the show in iTunes and other podcast sites and apps after the initial broadcast is complete here.

  • Hi Brian,
Jon David Cole and The Country Squire are a person and shop that are both new to me. Both Jon David and the shop sound interesting. I currently do not know a shop that does custom blends, but then again I have done some of my own blending. Jon David is obviously a person who knows and loves his tobaccos. You may have to have Jon David sit in for you sometime when you go on vacation. He would be a hoot.
Music – Kokomo Arnold, “Try Some of That” was a great suggestion, but I won’t try some of that.
Rant – I agree, leave the fireworks to the professionals and if you don’t have some respect for your neighbors’ concerns.
If the rest of you summer season on tobacco and tobacconists are as good as this one, it will be a great season.

  • Sounds like a great idea to go over the history of tobacco. The idea to go to different tobacconists for the summer series is a good one. Look forward to it.
Jon David is a really cool guy and his teaming with “The Real” Beau has real synergy. I have been listening to their podcasts for a while now and find them to be very good. We have a really neat cigar & pipe store but The Country Squire is really neat.
    No’Mo’ to Kokomo.
I have been involved in a number of amateur fireworks show that required federal permits, etc., and the general rule of thumb is that the cheaper the firework the more dangerous it is. Fireworks and driving have one thing in common: you can’t drink and expect to do it safely.

  • I like this guy. Jon David seems legit and knows what he’s talking about. I’m not too far away in Louisiana, next time I travel through Jackson, I’m going to stop in at the Squire and get a pipe and tobacco from this guy. It is refreshing to hear a down to earth guy on the show a lot of the guests are arrogant and pompous. This guy and the guy who has the massive Venturi The Pipe collection were the best, bring on more like them.

  • Great show Brian. I’ve listened to JD and his podcast for quite a while now. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. You can really tell his appreciation for the hobby. Wish he was in my neck of the woods to talk baccy! I would love my own personal blend. Keep up the great work!
