Below are two beautiful pipes and a tamper you can bid on while at the same time helping us raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Brian’s daughter Samantha has juvenile diabetes and she is participating in a walk team to raise donations.

Michael Novak Handmade Freehand Pipe Unsmoked in the Box. Donated by Radio Show Listener Ed Green. Retail Value 300 Euro (aprox. $415.00).

Savinelli Spring 6mm Balsa Filter Pipe New donated by Laudisi – Smokingpipes.com Retail Value $116.00

The tamper is described by Michael as follows: Retail Value $125.00

The dark opal is Andamooka opal from Andamooka Australia. It was sugared and smoked in a bowl of Old Dark Fired to get its dark color. Usually it is boiled in sulfuric acid or burned in a kiln, but I’ve been experimenting with sugaring them in my Nording Valhalla 203. I thought it was quaint for a pipe tamp, ha ha.

  • Hey Brian,
Private Label pipes can smoke very well. Astley (a London shop) is quite a nice find.
Bruce Weaver is an all around great guy and a fine pipe maker. I have one of his sandblasted lovat pipes, a fine smoking pipe. So my pipe was partially designed and sanded by a dog? His sandblasts are unique.
Friday nite, 9:00 PM in Chicago…Will be there!
Rant – Doctoring out the pipe in pictures – the wave of the future, and present. 3 Pictures holding a pipe, Einstein – Unbelievable.
    Good show Brian.

  • Another informative and entertaining show, thanks.
I have a few private label pipes. Two that I really enjoy are a Savinelli Billiard and an Apple, both stamped for the “Gift and Tobacco Emporium,” an old Chicago area shop that was owned by Harry Yablon. Harry was one of my pipe “gurus;” I bought about 24 pipes from him over the years. Great guy who is still in the business.
Bruce Weaver was fascinating; a very good conversation.
Can’t wait for the Chicago Show. And, I hope to see you Friday evening, May 2nd.

  • Caught the show last night along with a bowl of GL Pease Gaslight. Very enjoyable! The interview with Mr. Weaver was excellent. Keep up the great work Brian and Kevin.

  • Another great and informative show about pipe making. I have to admit before I spend good money on a top end pipe I like to see what my local pipe shops have to offer in their baskets. I have found many great smoking pipes in those baskets that are nicely built and with the right tobacco blend I get a nice smoking session for less then $50.00.

  • I enjoyed the part on private label pipes. I am now crusing the web looking at some of these pipes. I hope to pick up more ideas at the chicago show.
This weeks show has continued to build anticipation for the upcoming pipe shows. You are doing a great job of keeping the excitement building.
    Brian.
