  • Nice to hear you are alive and back. Memorex is good, but just not YOU.
I believe the more wood the better. It sounds like you carry calipers with you when you go pipe hunting.
I met these gentlemen and ladies this year and last year in Chicago. It sounds like our pipe club, just add 40+ years to each members’ age.
I picked up Rick’s audiobook. Good read (Listen).
UPS–Like? I don’t think so. Brown shorts go with a brown nose (refer to the Hanna interview.
Keep up the good work Brian, great to have you back.

  • Hi Brian,
I have enjoyed smoking pipes for many years and intend to continue doing so since it provides so much pleasure and relaxation.
With all the marketing data and hype that is available on the internet can you make any comments on your radio show regarding the current attitudes and findings associated with oral cancer. Are there any documented statistics that address the issue ? Is there medical data that really shows a connection to smoking a pipe ( w/o inhaling ) and the percentage of those who do having contracted any form of mouth cancer. There are many like myself who have enjoyed a pipe for 10, 20, 30, 40 or more years who have never had a problem. It would also be interesting to know if smoking additive free tobacco is deemed safer than using cheap tobaccos that contain artificial flavoring and chemical preservatives. There may not even exist any conclusive evidence of all this but I would enjoy hearing any thoughts you might have on one of your shows.

  • Hi Brian,
    That show was greeeaat.
i like to go on Thursday for a hike in the wood and smoke my pipe, and listen to the The Pipes Magazine Radio Show… that help me to relax.
    About that episode
I was Talking with Patrick Baltter and his uncle Robert from Baltter & Blatter hire in downtown Montreal, few weeks ago and he was telling me the same…
At the Pipe Shop they got more Folks interested in pipe Smoking and they are younger between 20 and 35 years old… it’s amazing. The nice thing is to get a pipe Makers shop near by… but having Patrick as a friend is even better.
    personal note:
personally a have start to smoke pipe a 20 years old,and i am in the mid 30’s
On a second note : i have already listen Rick’s audio book few month a go and it’s a Good Book. Those days i am reading Searching for Pipe Dreams on my tablet

  • I agree that you have to have some wood to help control the heat build up in a pipe, but I do have a dew delicate pipes that smoke very well if you go slow.
I thought Scott’s point about the older smokers being somewhat standoffish is correct but needs some expanding. What you are dealing with a group of people (the old guys) who have bonded into a social group. What you need to do is just push your way into the group. Over a period of time you will become a member of the group. If you just sit in the corner you will never become part of the group.
    FaceBook sucks.

  • Hey Brian,
Another great interview. It’s good to see the younger men (and women?) coming behind us older pipers. The next generation shows a lot of promise.
