  • Wow…..another awesome show. I love the commercials and interviews. I enjoyed my pipe and my glass of Merlot wine! I look forward to Radio Show #12.

  • Ah, Bach, Casals, Scott and pipes. And, what a fun conversation with Scott.
It was much like the easy-going conversations we have at our monthly meetings of the Chicago Club. Alex, Scott, Tad and all the other folk engaged in far-reaching, unscripted conversations about pipes, tobacco, music, sports, food and all manner of topics that interesting and interested people can amiably consider. You, my friend, need no instruction in how to converse with your guests. I have found each conversation enlightening, entertaining, and genuine. Notice, I haven’t called them “interviews,” but rather, conversations. For, that’s what they truly are, and what makes them enjoyable. Keep up the good work, and, do it your way.

  • I’m glad you both liked the show. Brian has settled into his role as the host quite well. I don’t think anyone else could do it better.

  • Another great show Brian, thanks. I liked your explanation of how you clean your pipes, I do it differently as I am sure many people have their own ways of doing it.
My method for after a smoke is: I break the pipe down, I take two fluffy pipe cleaners and double them over, and then run them across the inside of the bowl to get any left over tobacco and ash. I then blow through the shank to clear any left overs. I then take a bristle pipe cleaner and double it and run it through the shank, I then take two pipe cleaners and double them and run it through the shank, and do it again if I see any hint of dirt. I then take two fluffy pipe cleaners and run them through the stem. I normally use 4-7 pipe cleaners per pipe after every smoke. Like you I will look for dirt inside the shank if a certain pipe has a little gap between the tenon and mortise. I then will do a deep cleaning after a pipe has been smoked 5-7 times. I uses shank brushes and bristle cleaners all dipped in Everclear. I use Obidisian stem oil on all my vulcanite stems and I use a wax to shine the pipes. I keep a dime’s worth of cake in my pipes because I find they smoke great like that for me. I am a fanatic about keeping my pipes clean, I do not ever want to waste good tobacco by smoking it out of a dirty pipe.
The interview with Scott was great, I have been looking at his work and will add a pipe of his one day to my American artisan collection. The music was very soothing and the rant I could totally relate to. I have no memory for names and have always used the hey there method of being friendly while trying to work the person into telling me their name. The older I get the worse my memory is.
Looking forward to the next installment.

  • Another EverClear – Ever Kool Show! with cleaning tips…
Scott Klein – From Medico to young artisan Pipe Maker with diversified interests. Very Nice! Tomatos…(?)Fooled me, for sure… Smile and ask… Great Show, Brian!

  • Brian, great show! You do a good job interviewing the guests. You make the job of a radio host look easy. Love the classical music. The rant resulted in some good advice. I can never remember names and I need to admit it when I don’t. The name may belong to a very important person that I need to know!

  • Another fine show. Scott Klein is definitely one of the really fine young carvers in the hobby. Brian’s method of taking care of your pipes is really what a smoker of fine pipes should do, but most of us are too lazy to do it.
Morta was the Queen of Lithuania from 1253 to 1262AD. Oh, not that one? I guess you are really referring to the bog-oak that is found submerged in the marshes of the Briere.
