I'm trying to understand why a meerschaum pipe that I'm interested in buying is so heavy.

Does anyone know if it's a block meerschaum or pressed meerschaum? If it's a block meerschaum, then why is it so heavy? 4.6oz is on average twice as heavy as similar sized meerschaum pipes.

). The dimensions of the pipe listed is accurate, but I have no idea why this pipe is considered a large Meerschaum pipe. The bowl is size of an egg, or a gulf ball. I don't have a scale to measure the weight, but I have a hard to believing that it's 4.6 oz. The bowl is only slightly larger than my Peterson Ebony System Pipe #317, which P&C says weighs 1.2 oz. When I hold the two in my hand, #317 feels heavier.
