I'm looking for a nice German Jaeger pipe. i'd post a photo but cant figure out how. These are the pipes that have a vertical 6-10 inch wooden stem with a porcelan elbow joint and bowl. I'd love to find a good one that split the difference between a tourist trinket and a $300 antique. Any ideas for a good source? Ebay seems like a real crapshoot on this.

Here's a hint or two on posting pictures:

Give it a shot... sounds hard... but it's easy.
Is this the kind of pipe you are looking for?

This is a Tyrolean pipe.

That link is good. I saw that one also.

Just "copy image address", then click on the IMG button above the comment box, remove the http:// from the field and paste the "image address".

Poof!

I must agree with Uncle Arthur on this one... we switched from porcelain to briar for a reason.

That is what we used to call "Pfeife Rauchen". Literally, it means pipe smoking, but figuratively it implies a collective leisure activity undertaken by a brotherhood such as ours. All of them in their hunting lodge, sharing Cognac or Schnapps after a day on the trail, smoking their long pipes and regaling the other Jäger with stories of the hunt. Ein schönster ding zu sehen!
You may be surprised, what one was a "touristy trinket" is now a rare, functional collectible! I may be a novice at pipes, but I know Germans pretty well!

There are surely many sites out there where you can find a real Jäger Pipe, but the best is to fly over to Germany, and buy one, LOL, the Schwarzwald (Black Forrest for you non speaking folks) is the best place to get what you are looking for, I am certain you can find shops that deal internationaly online. When I was assigend in Stuttgart a couple of years ago I used to ride my motorcycle in that region all the time and all the shops advertised internationaly. Try my favorite site uncle Google.... Good hunting.

BTW try this link, you may enjoy it. http://www.pfeifenplatz.de/pfeife-rauchen/abenteuer-pfeife/index.php

Great... Right after I get over a major case of PAD and TAD, I learn more about jaeger pipes. Looks like I have something new to hunt for.

Check out ebay Germany:

http://sammeln.shop.ebay.de/Pfeifen-Zubehor-/8749/i.html?rt=nc&Material%2520der%2520Pfeife=J%C3%A4gerpfeife&_catref=1&_dmpt=Tabakwaren_Zippos_Pfeifen&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282

There are a few drawbacks to bidding on foreign ebay venues.

1. You can usually save their listings to ebay.com, but you will probably only be able to bid on items by logging in the the venue of origin. It's not hard, just something to be aware of.

2. Many European sellers don't ship outside of the EU. If the listing doesn't specify, ask the seller before bidding.

3. S&H can be high. German sellers typically charge around $18, but they will usually ship up to 4 or 5 pipes for the same charge.

4. Prices are usually in Euros, be sure you know the difference.

5. Delivery takes about 2 to 3 weeks.
I've bought over a dozen pipes from German sellers and always had good transactions.
