I came to the wonderful world of pipes after years of rolling my own cigarettes. Comparing the two, IMO pipe tobacco should be a lot dryer that RYO tobacco. I've also read that you shouldn't keep your pipe tobacco in an environment that would suit cigars - again it would be too moist. Unless your tobacco is so dry that it crumbles when touched, it should be fine.

I think it is a moister level of 13 to 15% so probably to keep it there 45 to 55RH would be good

thank you friends. i agree it seems drier is better and it looks like 40% to 50% is the perfect degree

I like my tobacco to have a little moisture in it. If it's really dry, it seems to smoke too hot for me. I do have to relight more this way but I like the flavor better.
