I have been smoking just aromatics since I started smoking a pipe several months ago and I think I would like to try some English blends.

Can you gentlemen recommend some English Blends to start out with.

A couple come to mind. My three recomendations are:
#1. Countryside from Boswell Pipes (Bulk)

#2. English Oriental Supreme by Peter Stokkebye (Bulk)

#3. Early Morning Pipe by Dunhill (50g Tin)

I would also recommend Frog Morton as it is a good blend and easy to find. I like Larry's Blend from H&H and Northwoods from Boswell, but, too me, Frog Morton is a little more low key and a better starter. Eventually you can join the ranks of us trying to track down hard to find tins of Penzance and Squadron Leader! :)

I'll third the EMP, simple, good, not too heavy. I will also reccommend H&H Magnum Opus, if you can get it. It's just a good English with a lot of complexity.

I think a terrific transition from aromatic is Shortcut to Mushrooms ( JFH )....it lets you adjust to latakia smoothly and easily....

You just cant go wrong with the Frog . Almost everyone likes it , mild , complex , cool smoking . Not the best English but a very good one .

Seeing as you are an aromatic smoker, I agree Frog Morton is a good introduction to latakia blends. Also give Early Morning Pipe a try because it's just so damn good!

I've got to echo the

-Frog Morton

-Shorcut to Mushrooms
I would also recommend

-Mcclelland 5110 (a bulk blend) Dark English Full

-Spillmans' Mixture

-Avalon --only available from Jon's Pipe Shop in Columbia, MO.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I am headed to the local B&M today at lunch to pick up a tin of something. I let you know what I get and how it was.

I am leaning toward the Frog Morton since so many of you suggested it and since I watched Lord of the Rings last night it seems like a good one to go with.

I second Mcclelland Dark English. Its very smooth and interesting without being too strong. Nice and full smoke.
