I have been busy trying to close on a house and completely missed the Sun Bear release? What did I miss?

You missed a bunch of guys kick into hardcore cellaring mode for a blend they'd never tasted, all because C&D put "Small Batch" on the label.

In other words, you missed pretty much nothing.

Well that sucks. I will gladly buy anyone's tins (a few) if they decide they do not like it.

Don't worry, there's plenty of time to get bamboozled.

Well I, for one, am excited about Sun Bear. It’s currently hibernating in a filing cabinet for a while, but aquadoc if I find it not to my liking I will certainly let you know!

I have smoked multiple bowls. You missed a very flavorful VaOr that has excellent potential for aging. Still has some rough edges but flavors are great, best rubbed out and smoked very slow. Payless Cigars still had some earlier today.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing! Wonder what he had to say about Carolina Red? Lots of people seem to have been shamboozled into sitting on a bunch of tins of that they could now sell for 3x the price. SUCKERS!!!!

I grabbed 30 tins of the Carolina Red Flake last year. Got 10 tins of the Virginia Oriental sold exclusively at the Chicago Show this year. Wish I'd have bought 50. I'd rather make a $200 or $300 mistake once or twice versus miss out on some great tobacco.

Hoosierpipeguy, thank you. I smoked it last Thursday and really dug it, and it was sold out on Friday. Grabbed a couple more to tide me over. Thanks for sharing.

I've seen this pic before and every time it still shocks me. So mad I didn't get into pipe smoking in time to cellar deep on these blends. For smoking purposes alone.

That's the fate for those pictured. Money doesn't taste like McClelland tobacco when you smoke it.

Duane, what are the tins just right of the blue ones in your photo?

This is true, smoking money does not taste like McClelland tobacco. But for those of us who got here too late, smoking McClelland tobacco sure does taste like money

Managed to find a little at a reasonable price a while ago though. A few tins each of 40th anny and xmas cheer, a couple yenidje highlanders, a balkan blue, a butera matured ribbon, a few of the frogs and a few tins of nording stuff. But now, the prices have just gotten too crazy, so my stash is likely finite. Me being a once a week smoker though, that should get me through several years easy.

Still holding out that someday I'll find some of the darker VAs or on the town somewhere, maybe in a trade, but we'll see. I've accepted my fate of having to suffer the slings and arrows of only having the other 10 billion good blends in the world available for $10 a tin

Buy what's available now and future smokers will say the same about your cellar.

I assure you I'm working on it. Ask my wife, she'll be super happy to tell you all about it. Very loudly.

Tell her it's good for your stress. Mine took up smoking a pipe, started her own cellar, and has bought all of my pipes and tobacco for the past year.

I was eyeballing a tin of this at my B&M earlier today, but the Cabbie's Mixture won my purchase.

It's nice to see all the Samuel Gawith on the shelves lately.

Deep Hollow was the one I dedicated to my Weaver acorn. Definitely a top five tobacco for me.

The biggest surprise this year was an unsmoked Holm Halmark she got me as a late birthday gift.

Yeah, I saw you post that in another thread a bit ago. Love the way the grain swirls up toward the top. Really accentuates the volcano shape. And that flat base makes it look like a straight up mountain. Awesome. Just got my first volcano a few weeks ago from Moretti:

I’ve smoked 6 bowls of Sun Bear so far, and I think it’s a fabulous blend. I imagine they’ll do another run next year, seen as how it basically sold out in 3 days...

I think this is a real quality blend, but the prominent floral note puts me off as much as the Lakeland scented blends. I will admit, however, that the elderflower is more tolerable pleasant than rose geranium, heliotrope, violet, etc.

I really like it, but VA/Oriental is one of my favorites. I was fortunate enough to get a few more after I took the time to get one and try it first. 2 long calabash bowls and I was convinced I would enjoy it. But I don't deep cellar anything, so just a few for me.
