Here is a Dunhill Shell Billiard that is 101 years old and sports an ivory spot, picked it up at a local yard sale for the princely sum of $1.00.

1917-1922 range Shell Briar Prince with silver band. The one one the left. One of my most special pieces and the one that started my love for small pipes.

Love those military mounted pipes!
What would cause the reflection from the heel of the Dunhill? (I'd call it a white spot except that'd compound the issue)

Magnets. That is a Neal Yarm magnetic pipe stand. The magnets are little balls inside the pipe.

So, your pipes all have little balls? Are they embedded in the briar, or do you place them in the heel when you want to use that rack?

fishnbanjo, a one-dollar Dunhill, now that's remarkable. And it looks in fine shape, with many years (centuries) to go. foggymountain, one of our Forums Dunhill experts, reminds us that back in the '50's, Dunhills were second fiddle in price to Kaywoodies, and easily within reach of most employed smokers. But a buck for a Dunny today, that's something. And a fine pipe it is. I'd jump on that one at that price for sure.

Here
None of my pipes have balls... :(
My oldest, and only, Dunhill is my "birth year" 1969 shape 90 Poker. Got it fairly recently from forum sponsor mikelaw-pipes.
It's thin and light and fun to smoke, but will heat up in an instant if not careful. I use it for slow smokes of Kendal Dark shag rather successfully.

Idong,South Korea.
1978 group 6 Root Briar purchased from Dunhill in Manhattan NY. It was a very well refurbished estate pipe, and they were trying to pass it off as new.It had a slightly sweet Virginia smell to it,and a barely perceptible ding mark on the bowl.I still asked the sales man if it was new,and he said that it was.I told him that the pipe had been smoked at some point, and that I wanted a discount if I were to buy it.He then went to the store manager, and told him what I wanted. This well dressed, smug little fellow, who bore a resemblance to Richard Dunhill,Refused to make eye contact with me during the haggling process.I got him to come down about one hundred dollars,as I remember.I no longer have the sales ticket, but the final price was in the six - seven hundreds somewhere.I am sure that I was the first nobody to walk in off the street and question them like that. And I still have the pipe. This took place in the late 1990’s sometime, maybe 97,or 98.

The original white spot was real ivory, ended being changed in the 20’s. Since it’s a WW I era Pipe I’m thrilled to own it, it is a Group 1.
