Is that vintage? That looks amazing!!! My mouth is literally watering right now. Just the thought of that huge chunk that you can cut into. Expecially since I am also a knife collector I have many knifes I never get to use do to lack of uses! That would make it that much more enjoyable! :rofl:

I think you should smoke it now! It's been aging already for quite some time and I'd be very interested to hear your report as I've seen these paper foil packets up for sale yet haven't got my hands on any. The plug is ideal for aging, I'd reckon that form has fared much better than shag or flake in the foil packets.

Hmmm, I think it'd be great if Peterson made Irish Plug (simply uncut IF) and continued this grand tradition of solid bar form once so favored by miners and farmers.
I think you should smoke it now! It's been aging already for quite some time and I'd be very interested to hear your report as I've seen these paper foil packets up for sale yet haven't got my hands on any. Dar, believe me, I'm extremely tempted - but, even though its in exceptional condition, its like a brick right now - it'd need a jackhammer to hack off a fragment. The anticipation, the "when", "where", "how" is turning into an exceptionally pleasant distraction from the daily humdrum !!!
Redbeard, I have a razor sharp Chinese cleaver waiting to shave this baby - my blade of choice when dealing with plugs - depending on the mood, I can shave it like a gentlemans barber, or, I can go all "Sweeney Todd" on it. I'm thinking this one may need a little more respect than usual.
Mike, Al, this is my first experience with this plug, and I was really pleasantly surprised when I opened it, not just because of the condition, but also due to the presentation - embossed on both sides, manufacturer on one side, name of the plug on the other. I must admit, I spent a looooooong time just admiring it - something I have never done with a plug before. All I know about this is that it has not been produced for many years (dunno how many is 'many'), and that my elders and betters spoke of this in hushed, reverential tones, in darkened rooms. There are 2 reviews on tobacco reviews - conflicting! Other than that I know nothing - unless it is that I am extremely fortunate to have come across this - I am, indeed, a lucky chap.
I'm off to look at the jar again ;-)

Misterlowercase, you will probably not believe this, but I have literally just bought another Warhorse off of that site - only £5 + £3 postage to Ireland. That is absolutely amazing pricing.!!!!! I'm tempted by the Condor Twist on there - Condor plug is one of my favourites.

Just rereading this, I can't believe I made such a blunder to suggest Peterson should make a plug, I forgot all about PPP!!! I have a tin of PPP but haven't opened it yet, hopefully it's more like IF and less like UF!

I've been eyeballing those packets, but I'm in the States and with limited funding at the moment I decided to not chance it. I almost got that packet of St. Bruno for only $10 shipped, but by now I imagine those flakes would crumble to dust just by looking at them!
Plugs are my favorite, I would be content with only GLP Jack-Knife and Triple Play as they are top shelf goodies, but after smoking some Warrior Plug and being highly impressed I'd love to try all the different varieties like Revor, Condor, Velvan, Potomac, Yachtsman, Garryowen, Mick McQuaid etc etc as well as the range of Gawith plugs which always promptly sell out over here and are hard to come by.

I love the historical stuff and researching old tobacco has been very interesting.
I'd say your bar probably dates to 50's or 60's or maybe even pre-war, who knows?
The font looks Deco, like 20's or 30's !!! Judging from the picture here,

Klause, do those tobacco packets on that website actually contain tobacco? And you mention you smoke Condor Plug - what do you make of it? I understand it's hard to get outside of Ireland and I haven't heard of many people having tried it.
