I received two estate pipes this week from the Bay, and they had the most beautiful grain in the briar. The first is a Peterson Sherlock Holmes "The Deerstalker" which came from Italy. The second is a Stanwell "Zebrano" which came from here in the US. After a bit of rehab, the grain just popped!

Knock on wood, I have never had an issue with estate pipes bought online...yet.

The grain, the insert and coloring of the stain on the Stanwell makes for a beautiful looking pipe.
Happy smoking!

Excellent grain on both of those, and that Stanwell is gorgeous. I like your taste in pipes.

Thanks for all the kind words, fellas.
Harris,

Both of these pipes are terrific smokers, I really got lucky.
Rig,

I do gravitate toward Bulldogs and Rhodesians.

two very nice looking pipes ... I'm particularly drawn to the Peterson, but both are very nice ... what sort of rehab did you do to them?

Steve,

Not a great deal, a bit of reaming, sterilized the bits, opened the draft holes a bit, and worked the bowls and bits with tripoli, rouge, and then carnauba wax on the buffer. Ended with the salt and alcohol treatment, and a final wax and buff.

I see now who out bid me on these pipes. Lol . They do look great. I'm pretty sure the top pipe is one I bid on.
