I received the first Ascorti New Dear bent about a month ago and liked it so well I decided I wanted another. This Calabash shape has a very deep bowl for a long enjoyable sweet smoke. Can someone perhaps chime in as to why the name 'New Dear' was chosen. Thanks.

Beautiful pipes. I like the calabash a lot. I'm sure you will enjoy a lot of tobacco with those pipes.

I have no idea where "New Dear" came from. In fact, until I looked closely at my own pipes a couple of years ago, I thought it was "New Deer," and that the finish was meant to mimic the look of a deer shedding its coat! (Which, frankly, would make more sense. At least to me.) But this is definitely my favorite pipe finish.
If you like the "New Dear," you should also check out the "Underwood" finish on Radice pipes. It's virtually identical.
