It seems to me I once read the chamber portion of the pipe stummel isn't quite set at a 90 degree angle. Not owning any measurement tools of this precision, I don't know this as a fact. Is it, and if so, why? Psychological bent? Something to do akin to my signature quote? :puffy:

According to some of my pipe making friends, a straight billiard typically is canted 2 degrees forward.

They look pinched at 90°. But if the first billiards ever made were at 90°, we would probably accept that as the norm.
