[I've had this blend made up by Cornell & Diehl, and can be ordered by name (maybe: they've recently been sold to a large tobacco marketing company). It's just as easy to make at home, if you have the ingredients.]

Hey Death Metal, what was the process for Rum-Soaked Perique? I'm leaning towards C&D Cubed Perique and using cotton balls with a splash of Apppletons Jamacian Rum. GL PEASE said he used Dark Rum for HAddos Delight. Didn't push him , whether it was Myers or a Oak Casked Rum.

My process is simple: take a dish, put Perique in it (4noggins ribbon cut) and put in enough rum to cover the dish, then stir Perique into it, and let it sit in a warm dark place for a few hours to absorb rum and evaporate some. Then, if still wet, dry under heat but not light, then pack into pipe and enjoy.
The rum imparts a nice sweetness.... dark rum sounds perfect. Honeydew, deferred by fermentation and distillation!

What was the cost savings over a commercial blender by making your own?

If depends on where you get your raw ingredients.

If you grow your own, it is essentially free. You will need a good shredder though so figure $50.00 for a cheap one and up to $200.00 for a top of the line shredder. If you buy whole leaf, plan on spending about $15.00 a pound. Once you strip the vein out the cost is more like $15.00/12 oz. You will still need a shredder. If you buy already shredded tobacco the cost is something like $30.00/lb.

NOT saying those aren't great, tasty blends. But 25%-35% Latakia would all but bury the taste of the other ingredients for me. Latakia for me is like the pea was to the princess. That's why I smoke only Nightcap and have no desire to try any more English blends. The only blend I've smoked with Latakia in it I couldn't taste was Edward G Robinson. Idk what the percentage of Lat is in it but it can't be much.

Not huge, unless you order by the pound. Then you can get decent tobaccos from $1.65-$2.50 an ounce. If you build a blend around Burleys, you can probably do it for average $2/ounce for 5 lbs.
