What do you think? It looks a bit suspect (read "fake") to me. If anybody has info on it please share. It's marked as a BBB neplusultra (isn't it supposed to be ne plus ultra?)

What really gets me is that BBB, as far as I am aware, made only briar or calabash pipes. Unless I'm being unusually dumb, that doesn't look like briar to me.

Doesn't look like briar to me, either, but "neplusultra" was used on some BBB pipes. Like here:

Maybe it's a war time pipe, when briar wasn't available.
That is a possibility. From its other pic, it's been well smoked too but taken care of so who knows. I did a little more digging and it seems that Frankau was the main importer of cherry wood pipe stock into Britain early on (this doesn't look like cherry to me) so they might have dabbled in olive also. I'm still inclined to think from the material and the stamping that it is not genuine but that's just an opinion.
