If they are doing it right it should be a bulldog of some sort, maybe a square shank with band? It looks like a saddle stem off a square shank perhaps.
On a side note - William Sadler is an underrated actor. He's great in almost every show I've sen him in.

LtGen "Chesty" Puller is an American Hero and Marine Corps Icon! I am now stationed not far from where he grew up in West Point, VA and had one of my Re-Enlistment Ceremonies at his memorial site. After my Ceremony I was fortunate to get a personal tour of his families house. I have a lot of Marine Corps memorabilia, and among that I have a few photo's of "Chesty" with a corn cob pipe.
