So named by me in honour of my friend Harry Bell who showed it to me at the Legion and because I am not aware of a precedent name for this method. I have not seen it described on any of the forums. It is fast, simple to execute and probably results in an air pocket at the bottom of the bowl.

One places the tobacco in the palm of your left hand if you are right-handed then place the inverted bowl over the tobacco and roll the pipe around your palm until it has taken up all of the tobacco.

Any body else use this method?

That's similar to the "Geezer shove" method . You dump some tobacco in your left hand , grasp the pipe with the middle finger and thumb of the right and shove the tobacco into the bowl with your right index finger. Alternately you can do the same thing holding the pouch in your left hand.

Nice thought, tilt. All this talk about geezer methods and handling tobacco reminds me of my grampa.

He smoked RYO back when that was the dominant cigarette form. He could roll a near perfect cigarette from a

cloth bag of Bull Durham as dry as fish food flakes, using ungummed paper of course; and yes, he pulled the bag's

drawstring tight using his teeth. This he did while so drunk he could hardly catch the tip of his newly minted

cigarette with a match. (Off topic, I know; but I had to share.)

I've read the comments including the porta's scatological discourse . . . very funny. Regarding the messiness, I can only assume that the user must have either a very large pipe or small hands. In my experience, the pipe vacuums the tobacco into the bowl. Perhaps it requires some dexterity that some do not possess. I've not noticed a draw problem as mentioned by marmalade. Anyway it's out there now. Try it. You may like it.
