Stanwells, for me, represent the best factory turned pipe on the market today. If I were recommending a newbie a first pipe under a hundred dollars, I would say he/she couldn't do better than a Stanwell. I've got four, but this one is my favorite. A Danish take on the bent bulldog, from Mike over at Briar Blues.

There was some restlessness on Forums when Stanwell moved its manufacturing to Italy, but the new

pipes seem to be passing muster, and I haven't heard any more about it. I seem to have "gone with"

Joh's on the Danish pipe front, but there are several Stanwells I revisit online. Along with Savs and

Petersons, they are real workhorses.

I'm of the same mind on this. Nice bulldog, btw. I really like that shape -- it's a bulldog and yet it's not (at least not the traditional English variety).
JYD, how do you find those Nanna Ivarsson pipes? I've always liked the look of them.

Pitchfork - P&C carries several Stanwell lines, including the Nana Ivarsson designs. They've got 3 listed as "in stock" currently.
Here's mine, a Zebrano that I picked up after getting a new job:

LOL, sorry about that. What I meant, was "How do you like them?"

I also have a featherweight poker (245), but these are my two favorite "desk pipes." Both are designed by S. Ivarsson and I just love the fact that they are sitters, yet don't look like most sitters. Modern Danish design and manufacturing at its best.

Thanks sallow. That Dublin always seems to get lots of praise. It is a great looking pipe and one I've had the longest. Your Golden Danish is a beauty as well. That Pentagon shaped shank is unique -I like it.
Edit: Or is that six sided? Can't tell for sure.

It's six sided, looks like the rusticated version of the Sixtus series. Then again, Stanwell has taken that stem/shank shape and used it in other series after the Sixtus pipes, including the Featherweight and, apparently, Golden Danish. Great-looking pipe!

It is not a sixtus, but it looks like one. It is smaller and newer. A golden Danish 199. I should also get the smooth version so I have a matching pair.

...and a straight Stanwell:

I also have a few Royal Danishes and Danish Clubs, but they are seconds of Stanwell (although I haven't noticed any difference in quality).
I like Stanwells.
