I went to buy some cherry tobacco at my local smoke shop and the guy there told me that the government was going to ban flavored tobacco. I couldn't find anything about it online, is this something that I should worry about?

For the blends that have been around since before 2007 the ingredients should stay the same, but I would not be surprised if they had to relabel them without fruit names etc. If 'cherry delight' was a blend I could imagine it becoming 'red delight', this is speculation on my part.

Your guy is misinformed. If they ban "flavored" tobacco, they will be banning 90% of all that is out there. I'm sure some proactive government socialist type thinks that a good idea, so make it a moot point just in case, buy up all the flavored tobaccos you like that you can and cellar them!

They have banned all flavoured tobacco here in New Brunswick and at least a few other provinces. It'll put an end to all those children running around smoking pipes.

Really? Even here, in (close to) socialist Ontario we can still buy flavoured aromatics, albeit at an obscenely taxed rate.

I guess I had better stock up on aromatics. I don't smoke 'em myself, but imagine all the guys who suddenly find out they can't get Middleton's Cherry Blend!

There's money to be made, I'm tellin ya.

I keep my shirt pockets stuffed full with Cavendish, so it is a GOOD smoke!

I'm sure that is an (official or otherwise) justification. Cherry tobacco attracts the little children! There goes a tot with a pack of Paladin now!
why would you want cherry flavored tobacco
I have cherry tobacco, Pagan, there is all kinds, some are horrible, but some of them are good. They can make a good mix with others things to give just a HINT of cherry. Depending on what it is mixed with, the end result might not even come out tasting like cherry but something else, and when in public groups, often cherry tobacco is more socially acceptable (I blow the smoke at the little kids).

Flavoured cigars are banned where I live, but aromatic pipe tobacco got an exemption.

If you're in Canada I wouldn't doubt it, some provinces have had menthol cigarettes banned now, if they could ban menthol cigs I'm sure flavored pipe tobacco would be banned also. Flavored cigars are already bqnned

I believe menthol cigarettes are indeed banned in Ontario. The logic being that because they have a "sweet" taste they will be more attractive to kids.
We already have laws forbidding the sale of any tobacco products to anyone under the age of 19, just like the legal age for drinking, but I don't see the government banning sweet liqueurs

So you cannot buy an Acid cigar? They are some of the best! That is obstruction of free commerce. I've smoked vanilla and mint flavored cigars, Principes, they are cheap but they are actually pretty good!
This nonsense should be challenged in court to provide the proof that since outlawing it, there is graphable proof that consumption by minors has decreased. They are merely punishing legal smokers for a (presumed) lack of proper enforcement elsewhere. Someone has to SELL it to the kids.
The next logical step from this is to introduce something which not just makes the tobacco taste less sweet, but actually bad! Then they can take all of the undesirable foods out there, soft drinks, fast food, etc., and make it law that they taste bad too.
That way we can all live in a perfectly controlled society where we all make good healthy choices and live right.
