I picked up one of these little beauties to smoke aro's out of, it just arrived today from Smokingpipes. This is my first sandblasted pipe, and I have to say I'm a bit obsessed. This thing is tiny at just 4.37" long, but it feels perfect in hand and the bowl is big enough to park a car inside. Having said that, I was worried that the bowl would look huge in relation to the rest of the pipe, but visually it's well balanced.

I've looked at previous posts on these, and I know some people have a love/hate relationship with them. Me personally, I love the look and feel of the natural horn stem, and the button doesn't bother me one bit. This is a cracking good little pipe. I believe there are still a couple left on SP for only $70 as of 3/11/19.

For those that aren't familiar with them, the stummels were apparently turned by Comoy's in France around the late 60's to early 70's and then sat forgotten on a shelf until Ropp acquired them and fitted a natural horn stem onto the vintage stummels. All in all, for $70 ($80 for the smooth ones, I believe) these are really cool little pipes.

That's a spectacular looking little pipe! I love sandblasts. It's by far my favorite finish on a pipe. I love the texture they provide. That is most certainly a nice little pipe I'd buy and the horn only makes it better. I really like that color combination.

Thanks! I’m really coming around to sandblasted finishes, they feel good and have a great vintage appeal.

That rings my chimes for straight billiards, as much as I also like a dozen or more other shapes too.

I teally like my smooth stout bulldog. Very light and the horn bit is surprisingly comfortable. The grain in nothing special, but no fills and fine shaping and drilling.

Neat find. If forum rules allow it can you provide a link?
Smokingpipes have 242 Ropp pipes and I couldn't find your gem
though I'd like to. Textured surfaces are my favorite too.

I have a smooth stout bulldog as well a blasted stack and Rhodesian from the regular vintage line, absolutely great pipes for the price! I had to just slightly enlarge the airway on the stems but after doing so they are great. Certainly unique.

Finally found the link and snagged one. They're 5% off and down to $66.50 now
though there seems to be only one left.

Nice find! Mine is smoking really well through only 2 small bowls so far, I’m sure once it breaks in it will be a fantastic little pipe! For the price it’s well worth it.

That's great to hear. But now comes the agony of waiting for it to arrive
which, since I'm in Japan, will probably take around 3 weeks or so.

But thanks again for the heads up. Once I saw those fantastic pictures of
yours I just had to get one. I can resist anything but temptation!

Haha glad I could help out! They’re cool little pipes, for sure. Glad you were able to snag one of the last ones.
