Anyone else picking up some of these vintage Roop Pipes from SmokingPipes? I just received my K77 with horn stem yesterday. I love it so much I bought another one, the 1028 this time, today.

These pipes seem to be flying off the shelves at SP. Anyone else getting in on these little French gems?

Neil:
I'm only familiar with those archaic Ropp burners made out of cherry wood limbs, like this one:

Any experience with them?

I have an old Ropp Like the link above. To me the cherry wood provides a sweet smoke, all in all its a pleasant little pipe.

I love my Ropp cherry wood. Feels good and smokes well. I use it exclusively for aromatics. Don't know why. It's just one of the two pipes I use for those.

I have never tried the Cherry Wood Ropp pipes from back in the day. I guess these new pipes being offered at Smoking Pipes are old Chacom pipes that are being labeled as Ropp.
Here are the pictures of the two new pipes I just purchased.

I remembered once getting a non-cherrywood Ropp so I went digging through my collection for it. Here it is with its nice silver band. I haven't even smoked this one yet.

Tould, that is a great looking pipe, but I think it is time to break that bad boy in lol.

Do you remember when you picked it up?

According to my ebay purchase history, I got it in January of this year. It was at the top of my PAD budget coming in at $19.27 Looking into the bowl I see there is no cake in there at all. Time to get started on that.

The new ones are new to me. I keep almost buying an old cherrywood from the antique mall. That thing is as big around as a beer can but priced a little to high for me to jump.

I love the name. It is worth $20.00 bucks just to say you are smoking Big Jean. I have a Ropp Cherry wood that I got cheap, cleaned up, and then had the stem professionally replaced. I am still working on getting it broke in again. They are rustic looking pipes.

I have been waiting for the $10 price drop. Checked yesterday and still there. Might get it for $15 but there is slight delamination of the bark in one small area and the stem connects by threaded wood and is slightly overspun.
