got these three guys in the mail today from bootleg in a pipe trade.

the two at the top are no name basket pipes and a frank medico is the little squat guy. the no names, despite their ugly fills, smoke very well. god bless good smoking cheap-ass pipes. the medico i decided needed a make-over.

this is the medico before

i wanted to keep it simple... elegant. the pipe has no standout grain to speak of but i thought the streamlined thin appeal of the pipe (that's what i liked about it) would be ruined with too much rustification.

i didn't want to ruin the sitter quality either. i think it looks like some sci-fi insignia.

Excellent work man. I like that you dont do the same thing over and over, but actually put some thought into what each pipe does or doesnt need.

Nice work! I have a Medico identical to yours. A friend gave it to me. Always been a very good smoke.

thanks guys.

looking forward to beating them up a little for ya romeowood.

marmal4de - doing this gave me an idea for a strange star wars blowfish i'd like to make someday.

bootleg - i really dig the medico. had some captain black in it today and it smokes great. i was really surprised how well the basket bullies smoke. they will probably get some rust at some point but for now i am just going to smoke the hell out of them. they are good guys to carry to work and keep in the jeep.

lonestar - thanks. i spend time in my autistic stare looking at the pipe for awhile trying to figure out what he should look like. i try to bend myself to that. it's a nice change for me as it combines lots of the things i love about art, and what i've learned from tattooing.

hobie1dog- i sleep about four hours a day. ha. and i had the day off from the shop yesterday. carved up an old freehand as well yesterday. finished the staining and post sanding. just haven't waxed it up and taken pics yet.

ejames - dug the look of this little medico the minute bootleg sent me the pic. it is a wonderful little smoker too. wouldn't mind getting ahold of a couple more of this shape. it is my first medico pipe.
