Newbie here looking for some advice on relighting...
Is there any recommendation on removing the ash when relighting after the bowl is at least half done? Sometimes I remove and sometimes I leave it... not sure if leaving it will provide some "insulation" to the lit tobacco.
Thanks!!!!

I just tamp down the ashes when it needs to relight,it works fine.

I haven't been smoking a long time, but I have done it both ways.
In general....
If I am having a hard time keeping it lit, which happens with some blends I smoke, I might take some ash off the top.
Something easy smoking, like Lane, and I don't worry about it.

I tend to leave the ashes in the pipe unless it get too hard to draw through the ashes... then I dump!! But there is no right or wrong way to do it, what ever works for you!

For me it depends on the type of cut.

Ribbon... just tamp and relight.

Flakes... usually stir, dump, relight.

Some tobaccos e.g. Half and Half.... don't need to relight.

Practicing slow smoke... Un-thinkable! :D
