    Good evening everyone.

I would like to address everyone about something that has become tiresome to me.

I have become aware that it seems to be increasingly in vogue lately to use profanity to express any point at all.

Everyone here knows who I am (as a person), and know that I rarely ask someone to be more considerate to the other members, and then, always in a Personal Message, never publically, and always expressed as respectfully as I can.

I find it very tiresome to read the postings continually couched in profanity. While I can and do curse like the Marine I am. However; I do so only when driving (at which I am a Tenth Level Grand Master), or when I drop something on my foot, or slam my finger in a door, for example. While it makes me feel better, in the short-run, to release some endorphins, it has no practical application. My Grandfather once observed. “Cursing without purpose is the sign of a lazy mind." I mean no insult to anyone, but it is very easy to lapse into the habit of cursing to express ourselves.

Please, I'm asking everyone to be more selective about what language you use.

I want everyone to know that I am not pointing any fingers; as a matter of fact I am guilty of the very thing that I'm asking everyone to be more mindful of... that being the flippant use of profanity in general... and the use of the F-Bomb in particular.

I have (in the past) posted a video that used the F-Bomb, and it was humorous. But, I gave warning that-that word was used in that video bearing in mind there are members that don't care to either hear or read that particular word.

So, please as a favor to me, to Kevin, and the membership as a whole... show some consideration when choosing your words.

I'm stepping off my soap box.

If you cant say anything nice keep your mouth shut and quit passing judgement on other people who you know very little about . All these innuendos flying about are worse than the profanity . Reading the forums lately is akin too the Civil War . This used to be a site for all to enjoy and discuss things not always related to pipes or tobacco . It saddens me when whole discussions disappear .But then the site would have little resale value or marketing value if left in place . I think we need a beer summit . Now everyone take a chill pill and play nice .If you cant play with the big boys , please stay on the porch .

What is a beer summit? Sounds like something I'd be down for especially if there was pipe smoking involved!

Now, if we can just get those sitting atop their infinitely high ivory towers looking down their noses and perpetually castigating others at every opportunity about every mortal thing to show the same common decency, we'd all be happy little campers

Well said Lawrence. As I have pointed out (maybe harped on the matter too much) but there are kids and wives who also may be in the vicinity who may not understand or appreciate vulgarity or straying off the topics of pipes and tobaccos. Profanity, risque photos, vulgar behavior and immaturity have no place on this site.

Clanobucklin - please remember this is an 18+ site and all of us are adults. Being considerate goes both ways - the more politically incorrect must tone it down but also, the very conservative must as well. You have to remember that Shrek - a PG rated movie from almost 10 years ago - used both damn and ass in the dialogue.

Insults, no matter how pretty the words are, still hurt. We are a small community and should treat each other with the same tolerance we give our family.

Excellent thread Lawrence, thank you and I will police myself a bit more.

Excellent post Cyndi. Couldn't have said it better.

The insults do seem to come equally from all quarters here.

It's amazing that even after Lawrence makes this post that I am still receiving messages of concern about the forums.

Jchaplick and Cortezattic were both humble enough and man enough to apologize. Yet, Cortezattic is still getting jabbed.

It peeves me to even have to waste the time to say, enough already.

They apologized. Now hold your own tongues from continuing to single them or anyone else out.

If I have to start being an active moderator myself, and it's starting to seem that way, here's how I am going to handle things.

No warnings and no nice diplomatic PM's like Lawrence painstakingly does.

The posts and/or threads will be deleted.

    Your account will be deleted.

How will you know when this happens?

You will know when you can't even acccess any page of the site to even read it after I ban your ip address.

Don't believe me? Then go ahead and make my day.

    Lawrence,

Given enough provoking, I believe I could make even you blush. But not here, it is not the place.

Cyndi and other southern members know that "Well bless his heart..." is the start of a major put down.

Now if any one wants to insult me, have at it. I have been insulted by bigger bleeps than anyone here and I (and they) have lived to tell about it. If I don't like you, I ignore you.

Pack a pipe and enjoy live.

You know what guys enough is enough I got tired of such a mess this forum is worse than a dictatorship so much politically correctness on the moderators side and their suck ups followers. It has a lot of people who think they are the last Pepsi in the desert. Because of what I do. I have had the chance to smoke pipe and cigars next to people that probably you big shots will never met in your life you are not the best at anything just because you have a piece of wood in your mouth. So I am done I am leaving, there are tons of forums much better than this one. And Two more things, To Lawrence, stop being a policewoman and get a life probably the most important job in your life has been a moderator and you feel like a secret service guy. And second, Kevin, that of banning IP addresses is for the ignorant. I know that you will ban me and 5 seconds later I will be back if I wanted to and you know it. Go ahead leave this post and ban me I could care less. Happy thanksgivings to everybody.

Oh Almalgam, extract your head out of that patient's mouth for a moment (or was it .... no, I won't say that, I'll get into twubble) and behave, 'ol mate 'o mine. Sometimes things are not as they appear and this is one of those times. Gawd al-bloody-mighty, I just went to grab my cigar like a pipe and being that it's 90 degrees in the shade, in my current state of dress (nil) that would've been bloody catastrophhic.

Now, as I was saying, things are not as they appear, yes, the natives have been restless, but the wheat has been sorted from the chaff so to speak, people now have a much clearer view of things and those who were coming down hard have, I believe, learnt to back off lest it lead to ostrasization & ridicule as many demonstrated recently so it's all going to be alright, Aunty Di promises - we have too much to learn to spit the dummy!!! Now edit that dang post before I slap yer little chicken legs, go have a Bex and a laydown AFTER you've changed that line about one of nature's TRUE GENTLEMEN (Lawrence) - you got that ALL WRONG!!!

Things are written on forums that are uncalled for and in some instances, quite inflammatory. This happens because of the relative anonymity of forums in general. In my experience, things said on forums are not repeated when the individuals are face-to-face. Or, if they are repeated, it's between the individuals involved and not the entire community.

joe, this is the truth! I used to be one of several hundred mods on a very, very large website and this poop was very common. It took a while for the site owner - who ran a T3 line to HIS HOUSE - to brush off the drama queens and attention whores. There are always people who need for some random internet people to be all "OMG, YOU CAN'T LEAVE, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, LET ME PROVE IT TO YOU RIGHT NOW!!!1!1"

That's why there's the often quoted internet rule: don't feed the trolls. Seriously - just let the post get buried and let them huff off in a storm and see if they can pull the same nonsense on their family and coworkers. After all, the internet is NOT serious business.

Ah yes, there was that massive one a week or so ago, when derogatory remarks were even posted on another forum levelled at you and I "spilling out of our cups" lmfao. Meh, they always blow over, conclude by being yanked, or whatever, but my observation lately has been that there's been a very select few coming down on many, and when things haven't gone as planned, it's backfired etc noses get bent out of shape but they'll heal or the "victim" moves on to other pastures and I for one don't think there's any greener pastures than the majority of wonderful people and knowledge to be had on this particular forum. When it's all said and done, it's a fairly self-moderating place as the thunderous ones discover.

Everyone needs to remember this is Kevin's business. I wouldn't expect to he served in his restaurant cursing like a sailor, insulting his clientele and suupliers, with my package hanging out, why would I expect it here? While it is easy to think of these boards as our own...indeed, even as a second home to some...we must keep in mind that we are also the community that makes up Pipes Magazine, and it behooves us to ensure in turn thatt the face we show to the public and sponsors ensures their continued support...especially as this is all provided to us free of charge.

This forum is a sanctuary for many; including myself. There's no room for drama. Only civil debates; of which this does not qualify.

I find myself agreeing with the methods of our fine Mods and of Kevin. Although if Kevin does see fit to smote offenders on the mountain side this may drive some members away, but on the whole may be better for the community.

Whatever direction taken will be for the sake of the forum and the community.

    Bravo Kevin & Hard-working Moderators.

LOL, dgerwin - those 4 words are never, ever spoken in my house. Ever.

Yeah, right. If I buy that, I'll buy GADOT Hot Lanes.

I like it here. Please don't make me break into Staff Seargant Drew. I hated that part of the job.Seriously guys. I come here to unwind from the BS on other forums. I would quote a rather infamous phrase from the AR15.com boards with a little twist... "Stop f*cking up Kevin's forum".
Please don't make me break out the bar analogies or the dog and new carpet analogies.

So, um, just out of curiosity.......what happened? However, if nobody cares to talk about it as it might let the brownies hit the fan, I understand.

I think it best to let it die a horrible death, Don. Better to let this dog lie.

That's all my little simple mind can digest anyway.
