I was wondering if there were pipe smokers on here under 25. Just wanted to see. I feel like its not too common for anyone under 25 to smoke a pipe.

People under 25 are not allowed to post here. You must be at least 50 like the rest of us old grumpy bastards. You also must have yellow stained fingers with long gross finger nails loaded with nicotine. Hair growing out of you ears and nose that are long enough to be braided are also a must. lol

There are plenty of young guys here, you will fit in very easily and remember us old guys have no memory so you can definitely mess with us. Welcome to the site young master.

I remember 25! I quit my job, went back to grad school and met my bride. Tomorrow will be 22 years.

Yeah, I think there are a number of twenty-somethings. In fact, that is one of the best
parts of Forums. Our society (if you'll pardon that grandiose term) is so segregated by
age, which is always a big mistake. Younger people need the history and perspective,
and even the grumpy-old-man/woman aspect from time to time. Whereas, the energy
and alertness and antenna for the future that younger people bring is priceless. So
stick around, farmer93. We are way more interesting and successful as a diverse and
various group than we are all sorted out by age and other characteristics. We get plenty
of that in most of our life activities. Hurrah for mixing it up. I go back to the Truman
administration, but some of the most interesting people I know are your age.

I'm just glad this forum doesn't have the same irritating spread of young pipe smokers as reddit pipes does. I.e, lord of the rings fanatics and hipsters.

19 almost 20 here. Tried pipe smoking out when I was 16, with a grabow omega I still have, and Prince Albert. I came to this forum because I saw that this is the most knowledgable group around. I stay away from reddit because of hipsters.

I was 25 in 1999. That was also the year that I started selling the pipes I was making.

I'm not. But I was. (Counts for something, doesn't it?)

Pull up a chair and don't feel so rare -- you look at least 26 with that briar hanging from your jaw.

(Started smoking pipe at 10. And PS: I was a teacher for 24 years. Some of my last students are mid 20's -- and they not only smoke with me, but have taught me a few things. Educated little smokers are teaching their teacher!)

I just turned 25 and started smoking a pipe regularly a year ago, best decision I've made. Nothing helps me relax during law school like a pipe while I read; especially a latakia blend while I write.

I'll be 19 in a week and a half. I'm fairly new to pipe smoking as I didn't start until I turned 18. This forum is an awesome place for younger folks. Many of the posters here have been smoking pipes for 20+ years and are great sources of advice and guidance. Mentorship is extremely important for any art form and I find pipe smoking to be very much like art. The huge variety of pipes, styles, and tobaccos allows for a wealth of possible combinations and the folks here are a great guide to finding the perfect smoke!

25 reporting in. I started smoking cigars when I was 19 believe it or not, and a few years back when I bought a pipe out of curiosity I enjoyed the hobby right away and have rarely revisited cigars. Pipe smoking feels just like learning to play an instrument, the more you practice the more rewarding it is. There is an unlimited amount to learn as well and I'm always discovering new things.

I'm just prematurely grey and wrinkled, lol.
If our local pipe club is any indication, lots of young men in their 20's are pipe men now. The first meeting was a room full of 20-somethings, and three of us old greybeards.

You may want to stick around. The lessons learned here are absolutely priceless and invaluable and the members are nothing but helpful, albeit smart asses sometimes, but that's what keeps it interesting. (I realize that was a run-on sentence from hell).

    Welcome.

I started pipe smoking in 2007 when I was 29. Not too far off of 25. I agree, you definitely don't see a lot of pipe smokers under the age of 25. A friend and I started smoking our pipes around the same time (he was a few years older) but I've never seen another young(ish) pipe smoker around here. In fact, I've never run into another pipe smoker around here except at the B&M. There seems to be lots of cigar smokers though, which isn't surprising since I live in a big banking town.

Yeah, I started at 18 - and am 35 now - and I will also say most of the guys on /r/pipetobacco have dislike for the people who come in and say "hey where can I find that gandolf type pipe" just as much as these forums do....

I should also note that I wanted a churchwarden for years, and then Lord of the Rings gained so much popularity I had to forgo getting one to avoid the stereotype... Irritating set back I must admit. However, I gave in and got one. I'm not what one would call 'Hipster-looking' nor am I affliated with many if any Hipsters.

It's nice to see all of the younger guys reporting in. So far, I think only a small amount have posted up though. There are many more. If you smoke a pipe, you are welcome here. Btw, I'm 50 and I love The Lord of the Rings. I read the books, including The Hobbit, when I was 12-years old and read them all three times over, and have watched the LOTR movies at least 5 times since they came out.

I am definitely in the greybeard category. Gray started when I was 15. Ever expanding forehead at 19. Beard started at 15, when girlfriend / bride of 22 years said she liked it.

FYI, every Halloween before going to work, I dye my hair a different color: green, blue, purple etc. Recently I found a can of grey spray on dye for 2014. That should make me look younger.

Started not long after 18 hit and now, almost 20, Still loving it. I find that the true pipe smoker, not the hipster, has almost a kindred spirit type of thing with other pipe smokers. It is the true thoughtfulness, if not a little bit of intellect, that helps us discern the true tobacco from the hyped up fodder at the local 7/11 or other. I was very curious when i found my uncle's pipe from when he tried it in college and started that way. I held in even when all I had was some glorified ryo tobacco till I ordered some Holger Dansk Original Mild Orange.

You don't have to do that here. We're all pipe smokers and I think we "get it".

Outside you may have to defend your choice to smoke a pipe, but not here.

What's with all the bagging on Tolkien? I didn't know one influence was better than any other. What's important is that we are all smoking pipes and enjoying it. My first beer was a warm Natty Lite. That doesn't mean I don't know good beer or enjoy stouts, lagers, and IPAs. It just means I started somewhere. We all did. LOTR stands as one of my favourite series, and will retain that place forever.

I don't think anybody's bagging him. It's just easy for others to make assumptions just because you're a pipe smoker, especially when you're younger. It can get old very quickly when somebody joking calls you Gandalf for the 465th time.

20 here. It's a good idea to see how many "young" ones are smoking pipes. It's down to us to keep it going! Although...we will be old one day...makes me shudder!

18 reporting in. Awesome to see all the other young pipers here. We should start an under 25 club. Any pipers in the Nashville area here should PM me, would love to meet up with more piper friends.

Money can't save your infinitesimal soul. All the use that money can be put to is to purchase comfort and enjoyment in this life; therefore, as you are an enemy to comfort and enjoyment where is the use of accumulating cash?" -Mark Twain

23 here - started when I was 18, saw a basket pipe on the counter that I really liked (it really was in a basket!) when I was picking up a cigar for a friend's 18th. Very irregular pipe smoker to this day, but doesn't stop me stocking up on tobacco!

I've been called a hipster once, but I don't think this person really knew what one was - apparently there are an intake of young pipesmokers now, particularly where cigarette prices have rocketed.

It's not common for anyone over 25 to smoke a pipe either!

But who wants to be "common"?

I knew I wasn't 20 anymore when they stopped carding me for drinks and started giving me
the senior discount without asking. Talking to 20 somethings is really interesting. I recognize
a lot of the energy and anxiety, but the challenges are notably different. Getting married by a
certain age, or at all, is no longer a given; people work that out a thousand different ways.
Buying a car or even getting a driver's license or learning to drive is highly negotiable. When I
had to take the drivers test three times, I felt like a failure in life, and I dreamed about learning
to drive a manual shift until I did (easily). I think access to college, paying for it, and getting
a job with or without a degree is far different today. As a Vietnam veteran, I feel a solidarity
with today's younger veterans, though I don't think they perceive that connection. I also understand
not having a clear career path, having gotten out of the military in a job slump in teaching and journalism.

I was 23 when this was taken in 1978. Smokin' my Tinderbox Verona. It's still one of my favorite pipes.
