On my back porch today enjoying a smoke and this popped into my head:

    The dog lays sunning
Crisp air whisps away the smoke
    Good day for a pipe

    Any other Haiku fans here?

    Here's my favorite:

    Out of a tree
    Through which a typhoon whined
Tumbled a monkey with a red behind

    Author unknown, circa 1800.

    Slice then cube cut, dry
Pressed, flake turns to ribbons whence
    Sweet smoke issues forth

    Nice one Pat!

Let's keep these going for awhile ...

    The cob stripped of corn
A bowl with shank and stem formed
    Warm sweet raisin taste

    Dug out from deepings
Sea-foam clay froths grey then white
    Smoked, turns gold then brown

    The C stem logo
    Adorns my ancient Comoy
    Bird's eye rims the bowl

An oldie but goodie (unrelated to pipe smoking):

    Haiku's are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

    More on topic:

    This pipe tobacco
    Filled with red Virginia
    Sets my tongue on fire

    Matches gently tease
    gold and brown tobacco strands
    alight in my pipe.

Be careful what you wish for, as you just might get it.

    4-6-10 format?

It was translated from Japanese in a book of Haiku from a Hundred years ago.
