Picked this up at a local antique shop. It looks just like a System 314 rustic, the rustication looks just like the 317 I already own. It has the system sump and absolutely no markings on it anywhere but look just like a larger version of my 317. Anyone come across something like this? I'm wondering if someone refinished it and just didn't bother with the marking?

How does it smoke?

I just did a cleaning of it and now I'm really confused. The pipe is spotless!?! There are some very light teeth marks on the stem but doing an inside cleaning with scotch resulted in zero staining. Pipe cleaner through the stem came out with zero discoloration, same as I get with a brand new pipe. The sump has a brownish color coating, almost like a bowl coating some new pipes (Brigham for example) have when new. The bowl is very clean but looks cleaned not new. I'll find out at lunch how it handles a bowl of Peterson Luxury and see how it smokes.

I have one as well. It would pass as a Pete any day of the week, P-lip and all, but very faintly on the botttom you can make out France on mine. I bought it hoping it was a Pete second or one that had been refinished but after I got it under a magnifying glass I made out the France.
Yours is a good looking pipe. Congrats , hope it smokes well for you.

It could be a knock-off. Peterson wasn't the only maker to use the "system". I have a WDC Wellington (see my album) which uses the "system" with a P-Lip. Smokes like a dream too. Were I in your shoes, I'd sterilize that bad-boy and smoke it up!

I was going to guess it was a WDC Wellington but their pipes are always well marked.
Still a good looking burner and I hope it smokes well.

Pete seconds used to be sold here as "Irish Seconds". I've got one - it says"made in Ireland", but no "Peterson". Small bowl flaw, but smokes great. It's a fishtail prince, not a system.
