Hi All,

Did anybody here ever smoke a pearwood pipe?

We at Mr. Brog have already produced over 1,000,000 pipes, most of them from PearWood Roots.

But we only sold them in the European market.

We are kind of curious if anyone in the US market has tried a Pear Wood before.

Please let us know what you think about it, the Good and the Bad.

I have one pearwood pipe, made in Ukraine. It's a decent smoker, but not one of my favorites. My wife, Cyndi, tends to smoke it more than I do.
The good. Thick bowl walls, large and easy to hold. Decent draw, but not the best. Very deep bowl. Carving of a frigate on the side is top notch and beautiful.
The bad. Some kind of brass stinger that I have yet to try and remove. Doesn't pass the pipe cleaner test. The chamber is very narrow, so it's kinda hard to load tobacco. The stem, while it seems like it's vulcanite, seems to be of a lesser quality to me. For the first few bowls of tobacco, it imparts the flavor of the wood into the smoke. Some like this, some don't.

Throw up your website. Maybe someone will buy one and do a review for us. There are many new pipe smokers (myself included) who would like to try different wooden pipes and see first hand the differences in wood pipes. I'm interested in the flavor a pear wood pipe would impart. And if I could even detect it.
Welcome to the community Mr. Brog!

I purchased a pear wood pipe from the Ukraine. My wife smokes it in her rotations. I've cleaned it for her... It's light weight is nice. The bowl is smaller than I prefer, but suits her shorter puffing sessions. The stem is a bit narrow to suit me. It causes me to think that the stem is weak and must be treated fairly tenderly. Even that is suitable to a woman smoker though.

I have a Mr. Brog pear wood pipe, and it smokes fine. It's a 9mm filter pipe.
I have found that I prefer non-filter briar pipes, but nothing wrong with my Mr. Brog pear wood at all, especially at the very reasonable price.

I got a pear wood pipe off of ebay from a Ukranian seller. I love the looks of the pipe. I want it to be a good pipe, but it tends to be sparatic in its smoking. Sometimes I can have a great bowl, sometimes the bowl won't even light. I guess there are certain other factors that go into that. But all in all, I like the pipe. I keep using it to break it in. It tends to get warm fairly easy unlike briar which can take it a while to heat up. Has a narrow opening on the bowl which makes it hard to load. Thick walls and nice oval shape make it easy to hold.

I have one of the Tabor #16M churchwardens. I love the way it smokes, and don't have a problem with it when I don't use the filter..

I have one Mr Brog. It's supposed to be a sitter, and was shown sitting flat in the photo, but it rocks back, empty or loaded. That was a big disappointment, but I didn't want to be out the $$ to mail it back. I am still undecided as to how much I like it. At this point, I prefer my real briars. I may give it one more try now that I have found baccys I really enjoy, but I wasn't overly impressed, even for a cheapie learning pipe. Just my experience; YMMV. I also don't understand the advantage of pear wood over briar? Briar has been used for a long time....is pear wood softer? Why would you use pear wood? I know some pear trees are very fast growing, but they also split and break a lot. I've never been clear if you use just the roots of pear trees or just any pear wood??? (Although I do see that you specify "root" in your post above).

I like the way this thread turned out. Mr Brog must have contacted Kevin about being a sponser. Then lots of us have bought his product. Most stories about the pipes are very favorable. I love my Mr Brog Scoot. I would call this a Win Win Win solution.
Kevin, keep doing your job of finding the next great vendor that will help us enjoy smoking pipes. We will keep doing our part, buy using grate grammer and spellling to make sur this fourum looks proffsional.

I have a Mr. Brog I keep in my work truck. I can get around to all my crews in the morning and not have to reload. That's the only thing I don't like about cobs when compared to my Brog. I spent about 25 bucks on it and ordered it as an afterthought while I was doing my Amazon order.
Sometimes the plastic stem feels odd, but honestly I'm usually not smoking for relaxation while at work and don't put a ton of thought into it.

I have 3 . I dislike the cheap plastic stem on the 9mm and the draw just doesn't feel right to me . My neighbor has a puella #45 , I found it to smoke much better so I order 2 since the price was right . Unfortunately I smoked one of them only 4 or 5 times in the last year . The other collected dust in my glove box unsmoked , so I put it on briarbid . They seem to be a good value pipe , but inferior to briar IMHO . I did see a Mr. Brog briar pipe online , and I would like to try it .
