The grain is so good that it makes the pipe a winner with just about any finish, well, perhaps not opaque black. Fabulous, just fabulous! I'd call it a horn.
Say, how'd the grain follow the curve? It's at a 90 degree angle to the curve from the start of the shank to the bit. I know luthiers, among others, bend wood. But no, I'm thinking that this is radial grain, and if the maker had desired, he could have displayed it in a fan, like banjo's pickaxe/black bamboo pipe in another thread. But he opted instead for the horn whose curve could fit the spread of the fanning grain. Yes?
