Did you "always want one" to hang it up on the wall or to actually use? THAT is the question. Personally, if I wanted something ( pipe, lighter, new baccy ) it would not just become a household decoration .....
Plus you'll never know if the thing is functional .... Looks awesome BTW :D

Consider purchasing a used one for lighting your pipe and keeping that piece pristine if you want to keep the collector mint value.
What a lighter though, that thing is beautiful. It has waited 40 years for the right pipe smoker to come along...

I have the exact same one. It no longer works but when it did it was very good. The "tube" that holds the flint on mine broke and I don't know if it can be fixed. Make sure to check the flint after a month or two and you will be good to go. These lighters are classics. Enjoy it.

I get what your saying rcstan and for the most part your right but I agree with sallow. Yes there not expensive lighters yes there's lots of used ones out there but there aren't many in this condition that I've seen. Like sallow said its waited 40 years for the right pipe smoker. But am I that pipe smoker? Maybe not instead I have this unknown obligation to preserve this beautiful piece of history for another 40 years. I can easily buy a cheaper used one to use. Way should I ruin this one. I guess that answers my question.

Good deal ! Again, congrats, and do post when you actually have it "on hand". I especially like the heading on the brochure " use, care and feeding ..." etc

Things made for a purpose, in my opinion, should be used for that purpose. Not using it, is kinda like not allowing it to do its duty. I like zippos. I understand a 1933 Zippo sold for $37,000 dollars. I guarantee you, if I'd purchased that 37,000 dollar lighter, I'd be using it :) But that is just me. I can understand why someone would want to preserve something they cherish. Your choice. Either way, enjoy it.

Whoa, that is extremely beautiful!!! I'm definitely with the "use it and enjoy it" camp though. Life is short, live it to the fullest in a gentle, balanced manner (and then leave the Nimrod for the kids/grandkids)!

I've had special items like that over the years, then sold them to get the $ out and usually end up regretting the sale.

I have a few items from my father which I value simply because they came from him and I notice my kids doing the same with my stuff. My 16 year old has had one of my pocket knives for a few years now and its quite important to him.

Getting off topic here though......
I do have a Nimrod Pipeliter and love using it, its the plain aluminum one though but still very satisfying to use as its a piece of history. I will say that, being a smaller lighter you do have to refuel more than a Zippo. The best old lighter for capacity is my Starfire( similar to the Nimrod commander).

That is fantastic. I would think twice about using it. I would probably pick up one that has already been used and keep this one pristine.

I have a vague memory of seeing folks use that lighter when I was a kid
Remarkable to find one brand new
Me? I'd use and enjoy it
