Saturday afternoon was the NY Pipe Club celebtation of IPSD and although I mentioned this in another thread I didn't mention that the former president, Vernon, had a leftover tin of McClellands Christmas Cheer, 1995.
This was my first experience smoking an aged virginia. The tin has a label saying: "Handblended, premium pressed Virginia flake tobaccos. A fine vintage, naturally sweet, in limited quantity"
The first thing I noticed was the color of the flakes-it was very dark brown, and altough I'm not very good at describing aromas, in did smell very rich and mellow.
It smoked great-sweet and very flavorful. I told him I loved it and he said to take the rest of the tin with me.
What a nice thing to do! I can see that aging Va's may be the thing to do.

You are so right, Romeowood. Vernon was smoking a commissioned Dunhill straight sandblasted tan shell. I didn't know that Dunhill would do custom work.
The meeting was at DeLaConcha on 56th and 7th ave. I left work early to attend.
Had a great time.
