Hello everyone!

My name is Greg and I'm 58 years old. I want to say that I thought pipe smoking was long gone with not seeing anyone smoking pipes.

I've been smoking cigarettes since 13 and tried pipes when younger and experimenting.

Well my son Dave (birddog), discovered this site a week or so ago and got real interested in pipes, then informed me about it and got me REALLY interested in pipes again.

I really want to stop smoking cigarettes and just go to full pipe smoking so any ideas would really be appreciated.

Had our first "Metro Detroit Club" meeting over the weekend and met a couple of pipe smokers (Sparrowhawk) who started and organized it and gave me a Missouri Meerschaum Cobb pipe, My son David (Birddog) and (Tlag 77). This has really piqued my interest and am really looking forward to talking with y'all.

So! Here's to stokin' the pipes!!!!!

Having a local pipe club around is going to help you with the learning curve. You guys can bring tobacco samples and discuss, which will help you find your taste and style. I spent my first year looking and trying as many tobaccos/pipes (brand, shapes) as I could, based on recommendations of the other forum members. Quite a journey!
Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum. It's great to have a new piper on board. I think you'll enjoy your time here and find that it's well spent. Happy Smoke Rings.

Welcome to the forums, good luck switching from cigarettes to pipe smoking. My Dad gave up smoking cigarettes 2 years ago and said it was the best thing he has ever done. Plus the smell in the house is a lot better!

Welcome Greg - your journey is just beginning. BTW also welcome to your new addiction; not pipes, but this site! Pipe porn is real and it starts right here!

From personal experience of meeting Greg, he's a great guy and a real asset to our club. We had a lengthy talk on the phone the day after our meeting, and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed speaking with him. It just tells me, pipes attract a certain type of individual, and I think that's the secret of pipers: we're civilized and cordial individuals and just plain great people. I can hardly wait to chat with him some more soon, and definitely at our next meeting.

Welcome Greg! I smoked cigarettes for over 35 years and the pipe helped me to sh*t can them!! That was 9 years ago.

Same here, ejames. My regret is I spent so much time (and money) on cigs before discovering the near-transcendental joys of the pipe.

Welcome - good to have you here. Giving up the cigs is possible with the help of a pipe - members here will be able to offer good advice on that (plus search this forum and Google for threads on this subject).

Welcome Greg! I, too, have just quit smoking cigarette (in April), and have taken up the pipe hobby. It has helped out tremendously! Furthermore, this site and its members have helped me more than anything else.. The information has been instrumental in my learning anything & everything about the world of tobacco pipes.. Good to have ya here! Happy smokin'!
