need help with avatar

hi guys,
new to this forum and i need a little help uploading an avatar. it doesn't seem to matter how small i make the picture when i go to upload load it, the site wants me to crop it into a little square about 1/4" by 1/4".
what do i need to do to get my avatar to fit?

You may be trying to upload to your pipesmagazine.com avatar and not your forum avatar found at Profile
It confuses everyone the first time.
