Can anyone throw some light on this pipe.

Got it off eBay, stem did not fit at all, extremely lose.

Tried heating the stem, no luck. Then put super glue on the tenon, when dry put it in the pipe, very tight.

On removing it the stem started turning and a tube of stem came away. This tube was black plastic which the stem went in.

Cleaned it up, stuck the plastic tube in the Mortise. Now the valcanight stem goes into the tube. see photo
Is this a Peterson original design or is it a repair? The collar is nickel plate. Think the pipe is around the 1980's

It has a pelip on the stem, the pipe has the Peterson system.

Is there a P on the stem? If not my guess is it's a replacement but I can't help you with the insert that stayed once you put super glue in the end of the bowl.

My take is that it's a mix of a stem from another pipe, and inserted plastic tube to fashion a fit.
If you really like the stummel, have a stem made to fit the pipe properly!
