Got a better deal through "Make an offer" than the page shows.
I'm starting to like bigger chunks of wood to grab on to while smoking.
How do you think it'll smoke?

Well, I got a bit discouraged after the "birth year" pipe thread, so I grabbed this as a consolation prize.
eBay is becoming dangerous with this new hobby...

I haven't the foggiest idea but seeing as you have the pipe why not load it up and answer your own question
And yes, it is as ugly as sin but there's no accounting for taste. For some reason that kind of partially carved pipe is very popular in the States, some selling for serious money.
Regards,
Jay.

Auction had just closed when I posted that. It will be a week of shipping before I hold it. :puffpipe:
I thought you more experienced smokers might have an idea, based on dimensions...

Chamber size isn't radical, and so how it smokes will depend on the briar and workmanship. It should be fine!
BTW, you can post a photo directly from an eBay auction - it saves the readers from having to open new links.

Yes, I think I'll call it "The Thing". Very fitting.
Stvalentine, I tried reading up on Rossi a bit. Not a whole lot of data that I could find.
One thing I read was that the metal oval marquis is an early trait, so I'm wondering if this predates Savinelli.
If anyone knows of any Rossi dating criteria, please share.

That carved rustication is like a whole separate finish technique. I have a tall bowled La Rocca poker with looping carved rustication and a Jobey with point carving ( done with a drill it would seem) but both artistic enough to get bought by me. Some techniques that shouldn't work finally do, for me.
