I am not very good at reviews and describing particular taste. I also am bias toward Latakia blends. I would like to find a mild Virginia blend as an all day smoker but have not thus far.
I purchased a tin of Mac Baren's Golden Extra a couple of months ago and the tin was dated Oct. 2012. When I tried it then I was not to impressed plus I received a bad case of of tongue bite. (Must have smoked it to fast) It really discouraged me from Virginia's.
But today I tried it again, I gravity fed the bowl of my Acorn Jobey Asti and gave it a light tamp. It was a somewhat dry mix. After lighting it and a light draw I really detected a sweetness I had not detected before. I also tasted something else there. This tobacco is described as being a Virginia / Burley ready rubbed blend. It must be the Burley I am tasting in there as well. I sipped it slowly and no tongue bite whatsoever. Actually, it was a somewhat pleasant smoke.

I would be curious what other have to say about this tobacco that has had more experience with it and give me some pointers on this blend. I really would like to give it a fair shake.

I have just started exploring this as a substitute for Burley London, which is being discontinued. I find it a very pleasant, easy-to-smoke blend. MacBarens are known for punishing smokers who puff too fast; they also may benefit from a slightly looser pack.
Folks who are big latakia smokers - and I am one of them - have to learn to smoke blends like GE. They don't have the big flavor, and we have to watch out technique. :puffy:

I smoked quite a bit of GE in the late 70's and early 80's. Jud is right that we latakia lovers have to approach blends like GE a bit differently but this blend is a nice change of pace on occasion.

I haven't tried this one yet, but I do have a couple tins in the cellar.

The guys are right, it is primarily a Burley. It gets compared to Burley London quite a bit, which means I'll probably like it since I like Burley London.

If you're wanting a Va for an all day smoke, try some Orlik Golden Sliced.

It's technically a Va/Per, but the Perique is damn near impossible to detect.

My favorite burley and better than the London IMHO. Great for a change of pace.
