Today I ran across an interesting old newspaper/magazine advertisement (see image below) for pipe-tobacco which I found to be curiously entrancing. Do you have any favorites? Please post them here.

These are great. I love reading these old adds.

It's amazing that pipe tobacco companies were able to get away with not saying what tobaccos were in their blends for so long.

They all said their blends were " cool burning, mild, delightful aroma, distinctive taste, etc. etc.

Only a few added that their blend contained latakia or orientals or even burly. I found that a big problem when I started smoking a pipe. You rarely knew what the hell you were getting until you bought some and tried it. You could ask the tobacconist you bought it from, but most of the time they didn't even know. All they would say is " well, it's a big seller".

It wasn't until the mid '90's that I noticed a change in the descriptions on the cans. New pipe smokers these days are a lot more fortunate.
