It makes me sad that so many people, as a rule, throw hip-hop into the garbage can because they are predisposed to it being crappy. Well all subgenres of music have their crappy groups. Hip-hop is no exception. But that doesn't mean there isn't stuff out there that isn't inventive, fun, and yes - damn funky.
When people say "I hate hip-hop", it reminds me of my dad hating punk rock because all he heard was my blasting hardcore punk as an angry adolescent. Then I started playing him stuff that was more interesting, and guess what - he still hated it. Well, his problem was he was a closed-minded cantankerous old fart with too many Howard Roberts and Wes Montgomery records (as in vinyl). He couldn't be expected to understand it. But I am betting some of you might enjoy these.
So here goes.

This track might be a stretch for those who aren't tuned into (diplomatically) mainstream hip-hop culture - but this was a watershed moment in rap (as opposed to simply hip-hop) because it really slammed the direction in which rap music was headed in the early 00's. So if you think rap music WOULD be good if it wasn't preoccupied with garbage culture, then LB would agree.
Not to mention the music on this track is just astounding, deep, interesting stuff

I promise not to post any of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five!
Well this is without question, one of the most important pieces of hip-hop music/footage of all time. Too bad it was left off the DVD because of Bob James

I tried the first half of the tracks, but I'm not attracted to it. I don't care for the repetitive beat in the music; it kind of grinds on my nerves. I'm happy you enjoy it though. It is a form of expression and an artwork with a message. I listen to ambient, classical, big band and swing, and sometimes oldies.

I like everything but country. I've tried it many many times but it is just so dang boring.

My favorite hip-hop song would have to be Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys. There are lots of others but no one here will like them and they have a lot of profanity. :D

A rather like a good bit of hip hop. Just like any form of music, however, there is the good and the bad.
I grew up with The Beastie Boys. Damn shame they lost a member.
