I have 6 of these inexpensive black fake leather pipe socks I bought locally and use them with this zippered canvas two compartment bag which is great for trips. It's actually a camera/accessory bag. It will hold up to 4 pipes with plenty of room for tins, cleaners, matches and tampers in the side compartment.

Nice idea. I have one of the small Peterson bags. It's not bad for a compact carry, but it's a bit small.
What, you're not using the Official PipesMagazine.com Multi-Pipe Tote and Accessory Bag?!
lol!

OOOOHHHH! Does that come wi the decoder ring after a thousand posts? NEAT!
Also, very cool idea about the gear bag. I have a buddy who is learning pipe smoking with me, and he makes packs and bags, hiking and military style stuff with a leaning toward medic-related gear. Really good work too! I want so bad for him to make me a bag, but he has too many people hitting him up for free stuff now, and he won't take my money as a commission. Maybe if I trade him a pipe...

I have a two pipe/ tobacco pouch and a one pipe version as well that I use every day. I also have an old vinyl cooler/ lunch bag that I carry on vacations. For that bag I save all of my pipe boxes and socks into which I can fit two pipes apiece. I can fit about four of these boxes and three small Mason jars of bacy into it. Plenty for a week!

I like the camera bag idea. This is the one I use, I've had it several years and never had a use for it until I started smoking a pipe.

My wife found instructions online for making her own camera bag insert (to fit inside a larger shoulder bag/messenger bag) - the basic idea could easily be adapted for pipes. I don't think this is the original article, but it's a similar DIY piece, with lessons learned and some ideas for customization:DIY Camera Bag Insert
dochudson - I would never have thought to check Maxpedition... that's excellent!

I bought this at Pipes & Cigars when they would still ship to Canada. It's great for holding pipes and a pouch or two of tobacco, tins not so much.

Being new to pipe smoking I wanted to see if I had something laying around the house that I could carry everything in. I found my old cargo pocket organizer from my first deployment. I think it is made by SpecOps but don't quote me. The inside is devided and I put pipe on one side and tobacco, matches and pipe cleaners on the other. There are mesh pockets on the outside where a tamper fits nicely in one, a little pocket knife in another and a backup lighter in yet another. I can't really invest in the nice leather cases I have been admiring just yet so this works just fine. Glad to see my "tactical" canvas pouch isn't the only one.

I am just using a shaving travel bag for my stuff at the moment works a treat

I've tried everything under the sun and for the last decade have been doing exactly what plank46 said. I have a large shaving kit made by Swiss Army Knife that holds everything I need for a week's trip. I used to use those fancy pipe and tobacco totes with umpteen compartments, but I was always spending half an hour looking for this or that as I'd forget which compartment whatever I was looking for was in. As I got older, I decided downsizing was a good thing!

The Maxpedition Fatty EDC works great for traveling with a few pipes, if you want to fit more get the " Beefy EDC " that one can hold more.

I also have the Maxpedition Water Bottle Holder that is a nice size ( 10"x4", holder fits a 32oz/1L Bottle ), so lots of room for pipes and tobacco. It also has an exterior pouch that is a good size.

I have the Camera Lowpro Carry Bag for traveling with more pipes etc.

The Shaving Cases work well also for transporting pipes etc.

I also have an Aluminum Cigar Tube/Travel Humidor with a built-in humidifier and hygrometer.

It can hold up to 1.5oz's of Tobacco easily and will fit into the Water Bottle Holder and the larger Camera Bags.

This is actually for cigars, but I use it for trips out of town lasting a couple days or more.

The Maxpedition Medium Jumbo E.D.C. S-Type Versipack will accommodate the other bags of the same brand with the 3" Tac Ties. Many Maxpeditions are attachable to each other by using this system.

Amazon does have other bags like the Maxpedition that are not as pricey, but I think the quality of the Max is better.

You don't have to buy pricy items or items that are called "Pipe Bags ", just use your imagination.

As long as the pipes will be protected which I think is the main concern, there are lots of options.

I bought a Pelican Case. Turned it into my Tactical Pipe Assault Carrier! Seriously...the pluck out foam on the inside gave me room for 3 pipes plus tools and tobacco.

jimraider, I think your old military kit is ideal, better than what you might have found if you'd had a wad of cash.

Military surplus stores used to have all kinds of heavy canvas cases and packs in many different sizes, and with

that heavy fabric, they provided all kinds of protection. But now they're not plentiful. I've made do with a nylon

shaving kit from Walmart, until my wife gave me a snazzy Savenelli leather kit that accommodates a churchwarden

or anything smaller. But I think the military kit is firstrate. Just know a good thing when you see it!
