So technically you are suppose to puff on your pipe and savor the flavor of the tobacco. But does anyone here take in an inhale after a few puffs? I know with some being ex cigarette smokers, that had to be hard for you because you want that nicotine faster. But correct me if I'm wrong, can't you get the nicotine buzz just from puffing?

Also, to kill two birds with one stone, what's a good strong tobacco that will give a good nicotine buzz? But not too strong that will make me sick. Thanks guys!

when i laid the cigarettes down, it seemed that almost every puff off the pipe was inhaled as deep and thick as i could get it. that tappered off after some time and now deeply inhale maybe once every other bowl full.
not a dead horse but just one of lifes experiences.
i understand that perique is pretty strong in nicotene that would be my first choice. if you think that a strong might help with the flavor cravings of cigarettes, try a blend that is relatively strong in latakia.
all of this greatly helped me to lay them down.
i havent had a cigarette nor wanted one that i cant even remember how long its been.
    hope this helps.

Get Peterson's Irish Flake and Irish Oak for the nic hit. I also inhale a lot.

If you still get sick from nicotine you don't need strong tobacco.

Goodkat that is not true. I can sit down for about 2 hours and have a good hookah sessions and be fine. When I'm out at a party or drinking, ill run through a pack in like 3 hours. But when I dip... That's a different story. Dip has always given me a huge buzz and given me a real bad head spin.

Early Morning Pipe from Dunhill kicks nicely. It's a suave oriental/VA blend that actually rates pretty high among cig to pipe converts.

And as for whether nicotine will get into your system by just puffing, here's the lowdown on chemical rates of absorption into your system by both speed and strength: (this applies from everything like sugar, caffeine, and nicotine, to heroin and oxycoton)

    1. Skin - those who pick tobacco and handle coke blocks often contract severe addictions
    2. Saliva glands (chewing, dipping, puffing)
    3. Ingestion
    4. Inhalation
    5. Snorting
    6. Anal - for the desperate pill popper (or is it pooper?)
    7. Intravenous injection - the most efficient method

And thus concludes the addiction survival 101 course...

PS I've worked with recovering addicts for years. Ya learn some stuff.

Skin is the fastest and strongest way of getting a nic hit? I just can't believe that.

I think you're reading that backwards (or he typed it backwards, or whatever). #7 says "most efficient", so #1 (skin) must be the least efficient.

I inhale once or twice per pipe... I too used to smoke coughin' nails.

For me the biggest nic kick comes from GL Pease Haddo's Delight.

Peterson's University Flake has a pretty good nicotine hit as well. My head was starting to ring a little ten minutes into the bowl. Wasn't too overpowering though, it didn't upset my stomach or anything. Seemed like it'd be a good crossover as well for a cigarette smoker.

I get a nic kick from UF too. I'd also say Dunhills Royal Yacht. It may smoke smooth but brother, will it make you feel like you took a bong hit full of cigarette tobacco.

If you are looking for a major nic hit, Five Brothers. Please remain seated while the room is in motion.

If at first you don't succeed you are running about average.

I never inhale, ever. But with some pipe tobaccos (Irish Oak is one strong example) and some cigars (try a LGC Serie R in any shape, or a sungrown AF) there is a definite nic kick. (Th LGCs are almost too much if smoked at speed.)

The mucus membranes in the mouth absorb plenty of nicotine.

Nicotine hits me as hard as caffeine. So, I do just fine without inhaling and I'm a half "caf" kind of guy.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. And hey, if you don't like it in the schnozz, sprinkle of snuff on top of a pipe bowl is pretty damned amazing too; brings the nicotine to "mild" blends, and imparts a unique flavour.

I am an embattled cigarette smoker myself, amongst the suggestions you've already gotten (particularly IF and UF), I would look to the following:

    Latakia/Oriental forward
    MacBaren HH Vintage Syrian
    Presbyterian Mixture
    Dunhill Standard Mixture
    Dunhill Nightcap
    Captain Earles Ten Russians
    Captain Earles Stimulus Package

    Va forward
    Dunhill Navy Deluxe Rolls/Escudo
    McClellands St. James Woods
    McClellands Backwoods Flake
    McClellands Tudor Castle

When the craving really kicks it in, I recommend the following
    XX Black Rope
Tambolaka (be afraid, be very afraid)

    My favorite strong smokes are:
    1. Gawith & Hoggarth Sweet Maple Twist
    2. Gawith & Hoggarth Black Irish X

They are both twists(ropes). The flavor is bold and they both have a nice, strong nicotine kick. I suggest smoking on a full stomach though. Good luck.

I've noticed many blends that aren't know for being nic nukes can be made that way by smoking a big bowl all the way to the bottom. Something about filtering the first part of the smoke makes that last bit lethal! I had this happen with some CBW. Room was spinning for an hour after!

Am I totally wrong here, but I just tried Mac Barens Navy Flake and Roll Cake and both gave a decent nic hit. Roll Cake being the tastier of the two.

I used to love University Flake but now I sort of don't like it anymore. Very strange.

I'm suprised that many on here inhale?, I never have and always thought it would be like inhaling a cigar? I need to quit cigs (Again, like the 10th time i quit) and bought some of that GL Pease plug, not sure which one, as I never cracked the tin, but bought it because i needed the nic to help ease the withdraw from the cigs...

Question though---will aros or english have Nic in those blends?

    Oh yeah SJ.

I'm smoking some Peterson Old Dublin (a tasty English blend) with a pinch of Perique.
It's got a pretty decent nic kick.
You'll find that we former cigarette smokers tend to inhale (but, not every puff).
You will probably inhale every few puffs in the beginning, but slack off over time.
As your dependency on nicotine diminishes so will your "need" to inhale.
I think kinesthetic memory (muscle memory) has more to do with the occasional inhalation than does any real addiction to nicotine. (No Tobacco Withdrawal)
Now I inhale "usually" on the True light and maybe once more during the course of the bowl, but that's it.
Those who have never smoked coughin' nails may never inhale, or do so rarely.
I think others will confirm what I'm saying.

Goodkat that is not true. I can sit down for about 2 hours and have a good hookah sessions and be fine.

That's because shisha isn't tobacco. Hookah bars are legal in Canada but you can't smoke a cigarette within 3 metres of a doorway!? Think about that. Hookah = candy.

I have. The fact that you can smoke hookah inside a cafe in Canada but are not allowed within 3 meters of a doorway with a cigarette should tell you something about the contents of shisha. Canada has extremely harsh tobacco laws.

Ok, you're being a jackarse. You seem to be naive about shisha.

You don't think shisha is tobacco because you can't come within x amount of yards to a hookah bar smoking a cigarette.
I don't need to show you anything. You just need to type shisha on Google and read.

Sisha is approx 05% nicotine PER GRAM and only about 30% tobacco...in case anyone wants actual numbers. .5% if it's unwashed.

For me, shisha is kinda like sucking on a humidifier. Biggest knee-buckle I ever had was from a friend's custom cigar-leaf/perique/stoved virginia/syrian latakia/kitchen-sink mixture. It tasted a bit like dirt and typhus...but dear gods did it have a kick. I smoke some stout stuff, but that bowl definitely gave me a tingle.

I'll second H&H Steamroller, a great tasting tobacco with a nice nic hit. I also like Five Brothers, alone or added to a milder tobacco for a added kick.
BTW Five Brothers will also remove ghosts from your pipes!

Five Brothers, Irish Flake, Irish Oak, and Old Dublin all pack a pretty good nicotine level. I think of those, Five Brothers has the strongest.

I enjoy all of them, but find that I can only take Irish Oak in small amounts so I smoke it in a small bowl. Something about it starts to wear on my taste buds after a few minutes. YMMV

In addition to Steamroller, I think that Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake gives a good hit of vit-N.
