Wife of a friend of mine was cleaning the fireplace mantle where he had a pipe rack. All 6 pipes ended up in the sink getting washed with Dawn. They were grease free when she was done.

I thunk someone here needs to take a cheap dirty pipe and try this. Break it apart so the stem can be cleaned separately and then report back to see if this works. Imagine if this was a viable way to clean a pipe, I would be in heaven. Definitely use the pot and pan setting on the dishwasher.

My mother did the sink and dish detergent treatment to my father's pipes when they were first married. How they made it past 50 years together is a mystery.
