Does it take you to get the job done?
I'm talking routine, not thorough cleaning.
Takes me 1 and a half, most of the time.
Edit: Corrected the capitalization in title, L.

If you ask Harris, quite a few! LOL
For me, each pipe takes two, sometimes three -- so about the same as you.
I use three for every bowlful.
Two for me!
After that, no more gunk or crud comes off without getting into more than routine cleaning.
2-4 depending on the pipe and tobacco.
On average two during and after I smoke one bowl. Rarely more.
Two.
1 to 2 for me depending on the pipe.
So far 2.
2 for me
one
I guess I save a fortune on pipe cleaners, I probably run one through a pipe after 4 to 6 smokes....odd thing is, my pipes never gurgle or sour or even have any off-taste. I tend to smoke my tobacco pretty dry, though, I'd guess that has summat to do with it.
I use 3 or 4 on my favorite pipes, 2-3 on pipes I don't smoke as often. IMHO, using more dries it better and helps speed along the resting period.

2 to 3 for me...

2-3
For my cobs and briars - two.
For my Falcons - one for the stem, and a couple of tissues or some toilet paper for the humidome.
Which-ever one that pulls out looking clean says you are done.
One or two plus a cotton swab-out of the shank does the trick.
I always run a pipe cleaner through a pipe when I finish smoking and leave it there until the next time. Then I run another clean one through. Suits me fine.
5-7 for me. I want my pipe to be as clean as possible between deep cleanings. Here is the method to my madness.
I take the pipe apart, grab the bowl and take one fluffy cleaner, double it and then run it around the bowl a few times, evening the cake. I then blow through the pipe getting any loose tobacco and ash. I then take a bristle cleaner, double it and run it back and forth through the shank. I will do that again with another fresh bristle and a third time if needed. I then take a bristle and double it and then double it again and stuff it into the shank to clean out the mortise. I than take a bristle and run it through the stem, and then take a fluffy and run that through the stem. The fluffy gets out more moisture where the bristle gets the tar and any tobacco. I have found that it keeps my pipes very clean and can make the time between deep cleanings longer. I will usually do a deep cleaning after 10 bowls or so. Pipe cleaners are cheap so I do not mind using a bunch to keep my pipes as clean as possible.
I've talked to Harris and have tried to use 800 pipe cleaners to clean a pipe, but I found out that the store ran out of pipe cleaners! LOL
I find that 3 to 4 is really the most I can use.
Allan
I use three per pipe after I finish smoking. Run it through, run another through, then I bend it into a U shape and swipe around the inside of the bowl. Then I stick one in and let it sit in there for a couple of hours while the pipe is resting.
I use 2-3 during the smoke, including 1 at the end.
Harris, what the heck do on a deep clean then???
I was gonna say his normal clean sounds like my deep clean
Junior Member of the Black BloodsHarris, what the heck do on a deep clean then???
I believe there is another link on here where Harris demonstrates how he uses his laboratory centrifuge and his pressure washer to perform a deep clean on a pipe.
I use one pipe cleaner after every smoke without exception. And, I rotate pipes. My pipes are dedicated specifically to specific blends. I do not leave a pipe cleaner in the pipe. I prefer to let it air dry on the rack. I never have to do a "deep clean". I do always use a dull pipe knife to ream the bowl after every smoke. Then, from time to time, I use the Ream and Clean pipe tool to remove excess acrbon from the bowl.

I use 3, how does it take you 1.5 rot, do you cut the other end off the cleaner and store half the pipe cleaner for later???
I don't go so far as to clip the dirty tip off a used PC, though I am known to be cheap, frugal and very obsessive about wasting not. In fact, I use the old PCs as fire starters for barbeque - throws off a great aroma. I'm a minority, on a different track than all the posters here, since I average maybe 3 cleanings per PC. I re-use pre-used PCs on the first swab, usually into the shank where things are tarrier. I also fold over the used PCs with dirty tips, twice in fact - that gives me more circumference to work with inside the mortise. Then I run clean (or at least cleaner) PCs through till one comes out more or less clean. I set each PC on a tray in order of use, and have 5 or 6 going. Estates, which I don't run through a retort, chew up a lot of PC usage, especially the first dozen bowls.

I usually use 2 for routine cleaning. I've been trying to get my tobacco drier so my pipes have been cleaner after a bowl.
Eric, that's exactly what I do!
Kris, my sons do my deep cleanings for me and they do comment that the pipe is never really dirty, but I like using Everclear after about 10 bowls to keep it fresh tasting. They use a shank brush and PC's and then polish my pipes. I do any reaming that is necessary, I have not taught them how to do that.
I know I may be a bit obsessive but my pipes have never once gone sour and I never taste anything off putting. I do get dirt off of each cleaner so it is there. I like my pipes to be as clean as possible so my tobacco tastes as good as possible.
Peck, that was funny.
3 pipe cleaners + a nylon brush + three paper towels + 3-4 Q-tips for each of my pipes
i take my cleaning seriously
I use A Pipe Cleaner during my smoke to keep things dry so when its time to break one down I need one Bristle and one fluffy.
I use one pipe cleaner and a q-tip, but I have cheap pipes, when I get expensive ones I will use as many as it takes to make it perfect for the next smoke. I get them from china for next to nothing so it doesn't really matter.
A pipe cleaner as needed during smoking. After the pipe cools I dump the ash and dottle, double that used cleaner and swab out the bowl then run two fresh ones down the stem. Every 4-5 bowls I break the pipe down and swab it out with a cleaner soaked in rum.Never had a sour smoke yet.
