I've been eying the Sherlock pipe series from Peterson here lately. What's your take on them? Especially this one.

I too wish it were a bit deeper...maybe about 2.00". I need one I can load in the morning and smoke till noon. :)It's a bit larger than my Winslow Crown Viking which is probably the largest I have but even it's not quite as deep as the Peterson.
Top-I think if it were stretched out like a billiard it would probably be over six inches.

I had looked at a few estate Upshall pipes that would have fit the bill but one had a fairly bad charred rim I wasn't too crazy about and the other was nearly as bad with a higher than should have been price. Dunhill was another estate pipe I looked at that was large enough being a size 5 but they really must have loved it according to the price.

I can't seem to find the Darwin. I looked over Smokingpipes website and they had everything but a Darwin...maybe another place.

The Darwin is tough to find right now, there's 2 on fleabay, but one is on the verge of a major burn out (and the seller acknowledges such). I don't know if they discontinued the shape or something, but I was trying to track one down the other day. Try searching for the shape designation which is B42

I only saw one new one on Smokingpipes but it was only the photos...someone bought it at some point and is no longer available.
I saw the Upshall on eBay but was a bit turned off by one of the sellers statements..."I am compelled to list this as a "no return" item". Compelled? Others give a 3 or 14 day return.

No return on Ebay doesn't really mean much because of Ebay's buyer protection. All that really does is exactly what it did for you, turn you off to the seller.

They only come as a set on smokingpipes and cupojoes websites and pipesandcigars don't have them at all. From what I read, 1984 was the last year.

I have several Sherlocks the latest being the Hudson (an original & a Lestrade) I believe they are worth the small price premium. All are drilled perfect and no fills, etc. I like p-lips on my Pete's but otherwise that look's to be a nice pipe. I'm currently looking for a blasted Hopkins.

Too late-it sold early this morning. I didn't see your post until now. :( Well, there will be others. I haven't seen a smooth, straight Nording like this one and it seems a good size.

This is also most tempting. The problem with buying from another country is you may be subject to delays with customs and import and other taxes depending on the price.
