Hi everyone,
As some of you know, I smoke in my house, but I like to smoke an aromatic whenever I share a room with my wife. Today, as I was drinking coffee, working, and smoking some Peterson Sunset Breeze, my wife walked in, sniffed, and asked "What are you smoking" "An aromatic," I said, "One you like." "It's not very aromatic," she said, "Would you mind smoking something that smells better?"
Friends, I would have thought Peterson Sunset Breeze was PLENTY aromatic enough. In fact, I have smoked it off and on for years around my wife with nary a comment. But--wives are wives are wives.
Can anyone recommend an undoubtedly good-smelling aromatic?
I know some of you may recommend 1Q. No disrespect intended--but I can't smoke Lane tobaccos, especially 1Q. They all give me a sore throat.
I would also like to avoid, if humanly possible, "sticky" aromatics like Captain Black. I am just too used to smoking "non-sticky" stuff to enjoy gummy tobaccos.
Thanks in advance for any help with this. I usually smoke burleys and virginias and am not an aromatic specialist.

You might want to try Black Russian from Tinderbox.

Captain Spice is a good aromatic also.

I've never had complaints from those tobaccos. I'm sure there are better ones out there also.

I just had a bowl of an Altadis bulk called Queen Anne's Revenge, very creamy nice aro that is cheap. Smokingpipes carries it. If she likes cherry then get some Hobbit's Weed.

My wife loves most of the Boswell's blends, especially Chocolate Creme, No-Bite DeLite and Christmas Cookie. She also likes McClelland's Holiday Spirit.
Just a thought, how old was the tobacco you were smoking? Sometimes the toppings can fade with age and that might affect the room note as well.

I've gotten really good reactions to the smell of MacBaren's Honey & Chocolate, McClelland's Tastemaster, and, especially, Peterson's Nutty Cut.

Since you are already smoking a Peterson tobacco, I recommend Connoisseurs Choice. I always get compliments when I smoke it.

If you've ordered from 4noggins, try their aromatic sampler. Great quality aromatics, and they smell great.

I can second Altadis "Queen Anne's Revenge" what a great smoke, an 50% off right now at smokingpipes.com.
Lane Ltd. 1-Q is another great smoke that has a good room note.
Captain Black Dark is also a superb smoke with a nice room note.
All three above are available in bulk, so priced right, and pleasing to non-smokers.
Save the stinky Latakia and Virginia junk for the back yard.

If they still made it, you would want to try "Amphora" in the red can.

Well since ya shot down the 1Q I'll have to recommend McClelland's Premium Aromatics line. All quality blends that taste good, transfer at a good rate, and leave a wonderful room note. I'd have to say my favorites are probably Best Of Show and Town Topic.

Amphora red full aroma is still available, just not in the us. If you travel overseas or have friends and family who travel to Europe, amphora red is available at Heathrow duty free by the five pack sleeve of pouches. It comes to around 8 bucks a pouch.

My wife does not like the smell of my pipe in the least, but she seems to come outside whenever I smoke HPCS Trout Stream. My 9 year old daughter is my "porch partner", and she always asks before we go out if I'm smoking "Fishy Stream", as she calls it. Whenever I smoke a pipe around people, I will always grab Trout Stream if I can. Never got a disagreeable reaction.

Another good "smeller" is LJ Peretti's Ebony.

Good Luck
