I'm back from vacation - thanks again for all of the great recommendations regarding New Orleans!
Thanks also to patiobum, who (as it turns out) went on the same cruise that we did! Unfortunately, with all of the extra events that the Steampunk Cruise organizers put together, our schedules were such that we never quite got a chance to sit down and have a bowl together, but he very generously provided a "welcome basket" (okay, it was a large ziplock baggie...) for both my buddy from Denver and myself. We're both blown away by his generosity, and looking forward to our own chances to pay it forward.
