Several of us Maryland members are getting together in Frederick, MD at "Quartermasters Cigars" for the first pipe club meeting on 11/18 at 7 PM. If you are in the area, give me a shout. Meeting will be on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. I stopped by the shop this morning, it's quite lavish. They have a decent tin selection with more to come.

Coincidentally, I just stopped in at Quartermasters last weekend for the first time to take a look around. It is a quite impressive space. Plenty of room, big open lounge area and nicely furnished.
Not to be negative, but I wonder how a business that appears to only be selling cigars from a somewhat moderately sized humidor, (the pipe tobacco and other accessories were minimal at best) can afford to sustain that much square footage just outside of the downtown area. Seems like a very huge undertaking for the owners. I wish them well and will try to support them when I am in the area. Marking the calendar for the 18th of Nov.

The owners have pretty deep pockets it appears. My buddy, (the guy in the picture, from the PipeSmokersForums) says the place is packed on Sat/Sunday during football and up to 50 smokers a night during the week.

It's not Woody, is it? Because that dude needs his face bounced off someone's knee

Nope Archi77 from the PSF. I don't know a Woody. I don't think many folks are bouncing Archi's face off a knee...(he's a big cat!)

The club organizer sent out a information email today about the club and first meeting:
Hello to all,

My name is Mark and for many years I have trekked many miles every month to attend pipe club meetings. Because of this, in the back of my mind I have had an idea of starting a Frederick Pipe Club here in my own back yard, for that same many years. Well, now, I finally have the avenue/location to pursue it, thanks to Ed and Quartermaster. You are getting this email because you have in one way or another expressed the same desire. So I am trying to make a go of this and see where it goes.
The Frederick Pipe Club will hold it's first meeting:

When - 7pm-9pm Tuesday evening 18Nov2014

Where - Quartermaster Cigars,

880 N East St, Frederick, MD 21701
Two things I ask you to think about before the meeting:

1 - Food. I ask that people give me feed back on this ASAP. I was thinking of either picking up some pizza or something else and people kick in money when they get there or just have everyone pick something up for themselves for the first meeting and we can discuss for the future meetings.

2 - What kind of Pipe Club are you looking for? Meaning are you looking for a formal structured pipe club with dues with the meetings centering only around pipes and tobaccos with presentations and such, or are you looking for this to lean more to the social type club where a bunch pipe guys get together and smoke their pipes and share tobaccos and talk about the latest in their pipe world. Or maybe something in between. I have my idea as to how I would like this club to go but would like input, as this will not be my club, but our club.

Well, I look forward to your feed back.

Thanks,

Mark

Good luck, Mark. I presume you are meeting week night cause the venue is busy on the weekends. If that changes to a Saturday, I'll try to make it. Will combine the meeting with a little fly fishing in the area.

@brass: Mark didn't post that, it came thru my email and I thought that I would share. Dip a line in Hunting Creek, and then shoot down to the club meeting when it gets dark (15 minutes from Catoctin Park)

We had an excellent first meeting, with 15 members in attendance. I met a couple of guys from other forums and the PipeSmokersForums2 Facebook group. One member rec'd some GBD Churchwardens and gifted one to me.

I live only 30 miles from Frederick and I never knew of that shop. I am going to have to stop by one of these days to look around. I would love to join the club, but every Tuesday is spoken for (actually every night of the week are taken up since I work night shift). I will stop in to see the shop the next time I am in Fredrick though.
