You may recall that I posted about mixing up a fresh batch of Cajun Half and Half (a VA/Bur/Per) a while back. I was cleaning out my office today and found that I apparently bought an extra tin of McClelland Blending Perique back when I mixed the last batch. Which would be... about 8 years ago? The tin is stamped with a 2005 date. It's in fine condition, having lived undisturbed in a cool, dark closet all that time. Any idea what I might expect here? Will a pure Perique age in any beneficial way?
I was planning on mixing up several test batches with different Burleys anyway (since the original one from the recipe is no longer available), so I can probably do some tests of old vs new Perique. But I'm curious whether anyone's used aged blending tobaccos like this before and has any experience to share.
